I don't know what they taught back in your days, but it obviously wasn't metaphors. In this song, Lethe is a metaphor for alcohol. It's obivous that the song is about something that the lyricist hates, but cannot do without. DT has said in multiple live shows that it's about alcohol and alcoholism, which makes sense considering DT's drinking reputation. |

"IT IS ABOUT WHATEVER YOU THINK IT'S ABOUT" I absolutely agree with you, 100%... The artists might (and usually do) have something in mind when writing a song, they can't control how it's perceived by others, nor should they. That said, seeing how others perceive a song can be interesting (which is why I come to this site...). :) |
