In my opinion, this song could be interpreted one of two ways. One the one hand, it may be everyone else has said. At the end of a physical life, you may experience a falling sensation, but instead of hitting the awaiting rocks below, you are swept up and your soul is carried off to a better place. But on the other hand, I feel this song can be interpreted as a love song. To "let me go" is to rid yourself of all fear of a potentially broken heart. To "push my boat from the highest cliff to the sea below" is to fall completely and unconditionally in love with the love of your life. Instead of falling to the sharp, jagged rocks that are a broken heart, your love will "swoop down from the sky and catch me like a bird of prey" and you live on in eternal happiness with the one "you wait a lifetime to be found" by. I personally hear it as the latter, however, I believe that it doesn't matter how the song was intended to be interpreted. What is important is simply that it touches your heart and fills you with passion, whatever that passion may be. |
