A fun, jammy song...definitely one of the best new PHiSH songs. |

Minarets are towers like the ones outside the Taj Mahal. I think these lines are pure poetry, and he's basically describing sex. The fingers touching and the secret alphabets being the unspoken connection during sex. |

there are missing lyrics at the end
the silence is suddenly smothering me
nothing I touch and nothing I see

If I am the drone then where is my bee

It just goes to show that Prince is a talented songwriter. Yes Sinead's version was great, but did she ever have another hit? Not that I can remember. This is just a hidden gem from Prince's catalog, like so many others. |

I've done some more research and someone pointed out that each verse is directed towards a specific individual, per the movie. First his father, second Appolonia, third the band. I agree with this as well and it sheds new light one why the verses together don't necessarily speak to the same person. But it can, if that's what you get out of it. The quality of a great song is that it can do both. |

@ goldenboy fellatio? facial? really? hardly.
The Purple One wrote some great songs about intimicy and sex and being sensual, but you've missed the point. Most of the other comments on this song relate to a failed relationship or one that could never be, but to me it seems like muckman has the best answer. And yes, the purple rain does equate with Heaven, but maybe the heaven you find in another when your souls are in love. I believe we have many soulmates, some meant to be lovers, some meant to be true friends. They may come and go, and we may hurt one another, but that connection is always there. We may long for those times we felt that connection(the purple rain) and know that's what makes us spiritual, yet fallible beings.

The slowed down cover version is by Aztec Camera on the album Cover Me or their 1985 eponymous EP. Not too shabby. |

sometimes poetic, sometimes very awkward language.... but whatever. i think it's a great song. the whole "she's just a girl" is something any rejected male may think, but a the same time the juxtaposition of "she's a bomb" tearing/ blowing his world apart with her rejection. |

Every time I listen to this song I like it more. I think Jazzjazz54 got it pretty close. I've always pictured a musician settling down and he had this woman waiting patiently for him. She's known him quite a while, and when he finally decided to pursue this relationship he realizes it's been there all along. |

Seriously, this could be quite the dancing jam. They should play it more, although I guess 107 times is quite a lot. |
