I think this one's generally about failing to perceive the obvious. Life is full of amazing experiences if we could only allow ourselves to experience. Similar to the basic general idea that if you stop talking for a few days and really focus on relating to the people communincating with you, you realize how litte you were ever truly listening. Take the line "eradicate the lungs and take us higher" Which to me basically means Just shut up so you can appreciate "the wonders at your feet" |

Amazing how they can hit so many topics with so few words. Dankey is certainly correct, as is Pallot. Ever read Fahrenheight 451? It's like mass media mind pollution (measly filth) used to ingrain (see it again and again) and program (spit it out again) so that people can no longer see what really goes on (focal degredation, block out all). People no longer truly live (escapism) and are isolated from the world (block out all) even in full daylight (amid the breaking of the light), what the author considers nightime (i.e., devoid of light, which I interpret to encompass enlightenment, joy, relationships) becomes people's "day" |

All of the above probably apply, but I think it's both deeper and broader than that. I expect the author is "decorating" his main idea with the ideas above. I think there is a stong current of sexual tension in this song And I don't think the author lets on exactly where it comes from or how it manifests. But, think about "Kneel down to my desire" and "deep in the vaults of my carnal agony". Certainly, the lyrics could support any of these idea or of the other posts, but also... This song could also simply be about the frustration of the creative process, about writers block and author coming to tears over the inablility to accurately express his deepest sentiments... This band is so intelligent, so subtle and introspective, I think they craft songs which represent many many differnt meanings simultaneously... |
