After seeing comments saying ABACAB was the chord sequence I picked up my guitar to check and laughed. The bass pedals the C note for absolutely ages at the start, ruling out the first part of this theory seeing as it doesn't even start on A. I agree that it must be the song structure, anyone who thinks it's the chord progression is clearly just taking a shot in the dark. Furthermore the song is in C minor so having a sequence of notes ABACAB in it wouldn't work musically as those notes in that sequence form a C major progression. It would work perhaps in a key change or a quick bridge but the idea I was getting is that people thought the main constituent of the song was ABACAB which it clearly isn't if it's in C minor. |

This must be how it feels WHEN the feeling goes. That's my favourite lyric of all time so I had to correct what you had put. |

Well I only heard this song for a few hours ago but I think the song might be about some form of domestic abuse from a father or other male relative. The lines that make me think this are: "A monster lives in your backyard." The monster being the abuser and the backyard meaning that he is someone very close to home to the person (ie. a relative) or he is literally singing to one of his neighbours that one of their neighbours is a violent drunk etc. "The big get bigger when the fight's done" The abuser only picks on the small and weak to make themselves feel bigger and better. "A catalogue of nothing good" Just another reference that the house was a home to abuse. "To find out where it feeds: A house." The occupants of the house are the victims of the "monster" It could be the idea of domestic abuse, but it could be the psychologist idea that Basic had. |
