If you play it in iTunes, go to Window>Equalizer, a window should pop up with music equalizer columns, turn every row all the way down except the 1K row, turn that one all the way up, then play the song, at 0:19 seconds, you can hear a woman's voice say "I'm with you." ;) Then just turn equalizer off in the top left corner checkbox to play it as usual. A lot of stuff to do, but interesting if you're interested. :P |

| I definitely agree with you. And I'm very sorry for your loss as well as Yoko's. :( | |

@jankout and @ashpash I semi-agree with both of you. :) I definitely agree with her using multiple connotations of emergency. Also, (*obvious note*) this is an interesting song to analyze. <3 |

This is definitely one of my favorite Bjork songs (Up there with Hyperballad, Isobel, and Human Behaviour). The impact of her words and the strain she places in the chorus make it have such and emotional impact, making the "state of emergency" real to the listener. The "state of emergency" line I think corresponds to the "emotional landscapes, they puzzle me" line; she makes it sound as if her friend is someone she can go to when she is in an emotionally difficult situation ("I feel") in which her own emotions are hard to understand, and this friend brings clarity, or a "state of emergency", in two different senses: "emergency" as in emerging out of the confusing abyss of her emotions ("emotional landscapes- they puzzle me... then the riddle is solved and you push me up to this state of emergency") and "emergency" in the more urgent and terrifying sense that she is now aware of her current strong emotions (and perhaps a little of that "thrill of fear" she mentions in later in the Volta song 'Innocence'). I think she again plays with her word choices and in the end, as she is echoing and fading out, she is singing: "optimum care", as you might here along with the term "state of emergency' and it well plays into the strong friendship theme. :) Amazing Bjork song as always, and it makes me feel good to know such strong friendships are possible. ;) |
