I'm probably wrong, but what I get from it is that they get back together and it feels all knew: "Lie down you know it's easy Like we did it over summer long" And they're trying to recreate the past, hence, 1901. Not sure, but hey, there's my two cents haha. I am absolutely in love with this song & the lyrics. Actually, I've always loved Phoenix but this just added to how much I love them(: Honestly, it's weird. This song (not exactly the lyrics but that too) reminds me of a past relationship I had. I agree with many of the interpretations. At first, I thought it was about a mother who is trying to reach the father of her children, but without this man, she cannot be the mother she should be.
