| Sparklehorse – Saturday Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This song is so sad in retrospect.. Always wondered what this one meant, and now it just seems like he was waiting for the right Saturday (whether or not that was intention: I think it's a sweet love song myself, the greatest. he was such a powerful lyricist). man. RIP Mark, I was a huge fan. love you and hope you're in a happier place now. <3 | |
| Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse – Daddy's Gone Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I remember listening to this about a month ago and at the lyric "When you lay your head on your pillow I'll be gone, I'll be gone", I thought, for who knows what reason, "something's not right here" and the lyrics became very dark to me (as they are I guess). and it was just a passing thought that i forgot about, but now.. :( what happened to him? this is all so messed up :| | |

| Radiohead – Wish You Were Here (Pink Floyd cover) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think that Thom is playing the piano and singing through the telephone on this recording, and Mark Linkous is playing the guitar.. I think | |
| Sparklehorse – Wish You Were Here (Pink Floyd cover) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I can't hear Thom Yorke on this, but supposedly he sang through the telephone. I love this cover so much and Thom is amazing so where's his voice? Is he mumbling? | |
| Marissa Nadler – Heart Paper Lover Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| such a beautiful song.. Marissa Nadler is ridiculously underrated. I love this album | |
| Regina Spektor – Oedipus Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| nobody else hears this as a song about abuse? the queen touches him and it makes her "awful", but he still rarely sees her and he wants to be with her because he really has no one else. one day he comes across the Oedipus story and decideswants to kill his father so he can stand out among the rest.. ("gonna make it count")? and if he gets away with it, then he'll be King? or so he thinks? that makes the "Long live the king" at the end kind of ironic.. this song kind of makes me very nauseous. but that's the mark of good art, to induce emotion.. | |

so many great comments here. I definitely also get a sort of sarcastic feel from it too, though not anti-religious. more anti-hypocrisy - the cathedrals wishing well to sinners, when there is no perfect person on the planet, and why celebrate just one person once a year..? and why is Mr. Projektorinski so scared? I think maybe it's about how we are always dividing ourselves from one another, but we're projections of one another, we're all fundamentally inseparable. there's nothing to win. also, I'm not sure if this is related.. but I thought maybe this song is sort of like her song Lacrimosa (musically a tribute to Mozart), but referencing Beethoven's 9th symphony/Schillers poem "An die Freude" (which Beethoven set to music) and putting her own spin on it? I'll post part of it: "O friends, not these strains, Rather let us sing More pleasing songs, and more joyous. Joy, thou gleaming spark divine, Daughter of Elysium, Drunk with ardor, we draw near, Goddess, to thy shrine. Thy magic unites again What custom sternly drew apart; *All mankind become brothers* Beneath thy gentle hovering wing. ... Yes, even were it one heart only Beating for him in the world! But if he’s never known this, let him Weeping steal from out our ranks. Joy is drawn by every creature From the breast of Nature; All men good and all men evil Walk upon her roseâ€strewn path. Kisses gave she and the ripe grape, A good friend, trusty to the last; Even the worm can feel pleasure, And the Seraph stands before God. Glad as suns that He hurtles Through the vast spaces of heaven, Pursue your pathway, brothers; Be joyful as a hero in victory. Millions, be you embraced! For the universe, the kiss! Brothers, above the canopy of stars A loving Father surely dwells. Millions, do you fall upon your knees? Do you sense the Creator, world! Seek Him above the canopy of stars! Surely He dwells above the stars." just 0.02c, what do you think? |

| The Smashing Pumpkins – Thirty Three Lyrics | 16 years ago |

what an incredible song. MCIS was my favourite album as a teenager, but after the atrocity that was Machina I fell out with the Pumpkins.. I couldn't listen to them with a straight face again until recently. this song is what brought me back.. and I most definitely agree with those who interpret it as referring to Jesus.. |

| Gary Jules – Mad World (Tears for Fears cover) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Funny, the first time I heard this song I swore it had to be R.E.M D: anyone else make the same mistake? | |
| Tori Amos – Marianne Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
"tuna, rubber, a little blubber in my igloo.." That feeling of nausea that goes with something so horrible, tuna, rubber, blubber all unpleasant. The igloo = cold, feeling numb with grief. I`ve heard that this song was written in one take, is that true? |

| oh, lozeli too.. well, everyone really. I love this site | |
| Regina Spektor – Open Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I heard this for the first time in a dark room the other night, I didn't even know it was on my ipod, and.. well.. whoa.. such an incredibly beautiful song, but the sense of suffocating sadness and yearning knocks you right over.. I think kdeb08 and liberatepotatoes have both hit the nail on the head | |

| Emilíana Torrini – Fingertips Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| oh, and the "round and round" could be referring to her fingerprints, the swirling patterns, each of them unique. | |
| Emilíana Torrini – Fingertips Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I always thought it was "nerve ends", not "nerve and".. "all the trees" but I love this song. I think it's just about how complex + beautiful the world is. evidently some (a lot?) of us are in the gutter but try to look at the stars, people ;p |

interesting Luke 12:6-7 NIV "Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows." |

| The Smashing Pumpkins – This Time Lyrics | 16 years ago |

except, Disgaea.. they were never really back together. Jimmy + Billy together are only half of the Pumpkins. without James and D'arcy, it is not the same. now Corgan doesn't even have Jimmy at his side.. really sad. I think this song must be about D'arcy (and her brown eyes?) and perhaps even James, who had emotionally checked out with her departure. I don't think he liked the direction the Pumpkins were heading in, who can blame him. Machina was embarrassingly bad and mainly centered around Corgan's ego, it seems that it became exhausting and the band collapsed under tension. |

| Tori Amos – Playboy Mommy (Demo) Lyrics | 16 years ago |

and, probably meaningless, but "Corinna (or Korinna) was an Ancient Greek poet, traditionally attributed to the 6th century BC. According to ancient sources such as Plutarch and Pausanias, she came from Tanagra in Boeotia, where she a teacher and rival to the better-known Theban poet Pindar. Although two of her poems survive in epitome, most of her work is preserved in 2nd century BC papyrus fragments.. she focused on local myths, and *drew parallels between the world of mythology and ordinary human behaviour.*" *I think it's interesting that Tori has often done much the same thing. if she's really saying Corina in this demo, I can't tell |

| Tori Amos – Playboy Mommy (Demo) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
...Come, let us go while we are in our prime ; And take the harmless folly of the time. We shall grow old apace, and die Before we know our liberty. Our life is short, and our days run As fast away as does the sun ; And, as a vapour or a drop of rain Once lost, can ne'er be found again, So when or you or I are made A fable, song, or fleeting shade, All love, all liking, all delight Lies drowned with us in endless night. Then while time serves, and we are but decaying, Come, my Corinna, come, let's go a-Maying... ? |
