| Fiona Apple – Sullen Girl Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I think the line, "But he washed my shore and he took my pearl, and left and empty shell of me," is about her rape. Pearl refers to her virginity, her deep secret, her purity, her treasure. It was forcefully taken from her, much like a pearl is forcefullly taken from an oyster, leaving an empty, non valuable shell. | |

I love the comparison to his love to candy. Deceptive. Artificial. Anyway, this song reminds me of rape for some reason. I think of a young woman who is newly married who thought her husband was gonna be some great guy, but he then turns on her, and she can't leave him now that they are already done and married. She lusts for him, but he's bad for her. |

When reviewing this song, it's best to forget about the video. In an interview, the lead singer said that since their song was so misogynistic, they wanted to make a video to balance it out (and a video for their haters to watch so everyone is happy). Thought I could make you older Thought I could keep you out of harm But now you're caught in my arms I personally think the song is about a guy who sleeps with a young girl (probably teenager). He knows she's naive, so he feels protective of her. By clean, I thought he meant that he was the only one she sleeps with, and sleeping with her makes her lose her innocence (thought i could make you older), but he knows she probably would have agreed to sleep with any guy (she loves everybody). Now that we've made it this far Now that we've made a mess in the car You ought to give it a rest He's kinda making this seem like it was her fault "You ought to give it a rest." he's tired. he doesnt care about her feelings. hes using her because he knows shes just desperate for affection because she never had a real father in her life. |

| Regina Spektor – Chemo Limo Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Regina has to act like the responsible mom taking care of her children, but she looks at Barbara and sees her mom. Her voice becomes vulnerable and it shows that parents need protection, too; they can be vulnerable. She'll never see her kids grow up and she's looking at them like this is the last moment. She'll die knowing she couldn't stop the bullies, and she just wanted to be a good mother. | |

Your theory gave me a thought, so I would like to add on to it. When she says "Cause over night that lake had turned as thick as butter," maybe thats means that a lake of problems arises as soon as the children become teenagers. It signifies that childhood leaves us so fast, almost overnight, and then bam--we're in the real world where it's not all fun and games. These problems become thick overnight. |
