By the way, isn't it "i'm praying for rain, i'm praying for tidal waves", not "praying for mayhem"? last i knew it was "praying for rain", which makes more sense than using the word mayhem. rain is cleansing, rain washes things away. |

The incredible urge to be rid of unpleasant old L.A. California. Love this song as it can be applied to the majority of america in a way. I want to watch it all go down. |

because of maynard's previous writings, we are led to believe that this is a song about anal sex. the anus is supposedly 4 degrees warmer than the rest of the body (which may or may not be true, webmd could tell you). many of tool's songs are sexually charged so most of us assume that this is indeed about anal sex, just like prison sex is about either adult rape or child abuse. |

No one can hurt you but your own brain eh? Then why should anything ever be disgusting? So why should gay people care what your brain finds disgusting and furthermore why should they respect your insecurities? oooo, thinking time. |

It's about anal sex, which, believe it or not many straight men enjoy thoroughly, particularly when their female partner is willing to participate. This song is about persuading an individual to participate in anal sex. |

Martyrdom in general or it could quite possibly be about Jesus (or even L. Ron Hubbard, as he really didn't have much to say). That's the joy of Tool, they leave you to make your own interpretations. I'm inclined to think it's more about Jesus though because of the line "get off your fucking cross" or perhaps the followers of Jesus and their hypocritical ways. |

indeed, it is a blind melon reference and Vedder did a lovely job on the song. it is about fame causing your death. at the end of this song, on most CDs there is a hidden track called 4/20/02 and that song is about layne staley and his death due to fame and drugs. |

| Bush – Little Things Lyrics

i think it's about sex..."I touch your mouth
my willy is food"--well...we all know what a willy is. and the "little things that kill" could possibly be sperms...because many people find that pregnancy is more a less a death sentence (death to fun, death to youth). "i bleach the sky every night"...could be talking about masturbation. really if you read the whole thing with sex on the brain, it makes beautiful dirty sense. |

i believe it's about high expectations but having to lower them because reality becomes a pain in the ass. wishing for a Jesus but settling for a Peter. it may also be about an affair, if one watches the video that goes along with the song you get that idea. the man has an affair, the woman must play forgiveness. it may go as far as being about just marriage or a relationship in general. |

well, i reckon it's about running away with someone you love because everyone else around you is bringing you down. this song has always reminded me of the movie "What's Eating Gilbert Grape". Just wanting to leave it all behind, but not wanting to go alone. |

the worst way to die...death by the icy waters of Lake Superior. a lake that offers little hope if you fall overboard. "The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead" is very true, they never did find the bodies of the 29 crew members. Cold water makes bodies sink and who knows where they went to after that. Horribly sad.

this is one of the weirdest songs about god and jesus i've ever heard, but it is quite a pleasant little ditty. i like how he refers to jesus as the Lord of the Dance. i'm an atheist and like this song...says a lot for Donovan and his great song writing skills. |

in the original song, Captain Ferrell is somewhat a bit of a seedy character. That doesn't come out in this version unfortunately. Molly was originally Jenny too. And in the original, the main character believes that his brother will come bail him out of prison. This version is alright, but certainly not the best, there's a great one by The Oddsods. This song wasn't meant to be a downer, it actually was quite a fast paced song to teach a lesson about drinking and stealing (but people usually drank along while listening to it). The Grateful Dead created a version of this that Thin Lizzy reworked. If you look on Project Playlist you can find a whole bunch of Whiskey in the Jar versions. |

infatuation and changing the individual to be exactly what you wish them to be. a deadly obsession perhaps...hmm..something like that. of course...it could just be random words all placed nicely together to make it seem like there's a theme to the song...i do that in poems, perhaps he did that with the song. it's a lovely way to mislead overly anal (the "i must know exactly what it means or i will never be happy!" people) listeners and give those with less brutal needs a chance to tack on their own meanings. |

well, kurt usually had songs that left people baffled as to what they meant, but i believe this one is about the craptacularness of marriage. being married to courtney love would make anyone dislike the whole idea of marriage. it could be a general look at it though. apologies having to be made by the man, even when he didn't really do anything wrong. also in the second verse, he may be talking about escaping the bullshit through drugs. for years i thought the line "aqua seafoam shame" was "ah/oh, deceitful shame" which made a little more sense than seafoam shame. but either way... and the last line i always thought it was "All we know is all we are" too...oh well... very sad little ditty. so...do any of you think some of these songs were a cry for help? i seriously think cortney murdered him (or had someone else do it). anyone else think the same? |

oh the joys of necrophilia...the character in the story slept by a morgue, was arrested for lewd acts against a corpse (aka necrophilia), and the judge is telling the jury how sick he thinks it is. the character is making excuses as to why he prefers the dead. it's really quite a look at the sad view points of necrophilic individuals. many find that they can't acquire a living woman. (Most have mental problems stemming from the mother or an overly religious (usually christian) household.) many think themselves unattractive. others have been rejected and have never gotten over the rejection
"have you ever tasted love like this?
cool and smooth have you ever been accepted unconditionaly?
have you ever loved someone who didn't hurt you, didn't harm you?
There's no pain and there's no pressure
no humiliation
there's no fear and there's no shame
there's no pulse now is it so strange?"
and find it easier to have sex with the dead rather than face rejection again.
There are various cases of female necrophiliacs, but they are rare.
Some necrophiliacs can't be fully explained. Ted Bundy was a serial killer and sadist, but he often times would have sex with the bodies of those he killed. Other serial killers have done the same.
Most necrophiliacs are reasonably peaceful individuals. Serial killers seem to be the exception.
sorry i started rambling off there...just wanted give a little info on the subject.

that line really is "could you settle to shoot me"...if you break down the song in audio editing software, it's very obviously- settle to shoot me- and postpluto is correct in the meaning of the song. the second verse fits perfectly with that meaning. they of course had to make up some weird thing for the tv show because Nickelodeon didn't want to look as though they were supporting violence. |
