i'm 18, and i agree. i was brought up on 1950's rock'n'roll, so anything else i like is simply down to me. not friends nor parents. good on you. listen to some of The Doors and mybe some 90's-now Doom. Try the Yardbirds too (clapton's first band)and the rolling stones...all these influenced or were influenced by led zep. |

sure he's not just literally refering to the realy famous song 'old shep' about an old dog being shot because he's old and ill? it'd make more sense. especially as that bit comes after the line 'When you're old and your eyes are dim'. |

it's about a dog, but they're taking the piss by describing the dog with similar vocab as you would describe a love interest...we only realise it's a dog when the expected 'girl' is infact 'merle' a kind of dog, or colour of a dogs coat. it's a dead clever, funny and actually touching song. i didn't realise it was about his dog till i looked up the lyrics yesterday. |

Na, 'old shep' is a depressing american folk ballad about a boy and his dog,the dog gets old and ill and the boy has to shoot it. Extra info- 'old shep' was the first song that Elvis sang competitivly when he was around 12-14 (in a local tallent show in his town, he came second), and there is a reference to the song in only fools and horses, the song is so depressing it empties the pub, lol. Any ways, the lyrics mean 'if you get old... i won't get you put down, we'll carry on the same' |
