It's about mans intense lust and love for a woman who sees his desire and uses it to have power over him. She makes him wait outside her door and then crawl over the floor before she will let him have her. He is willing to do anything or say anything to have her. She makes him feel unworthy, weak, evil, stupid and old but she finally gives him what he wants and it makes him want her more. His lust is temporarily satisfied but he is infatuated and wants her to be his bride. |

I've been a huge Faith No More fan for quite some time, and I find most of their lyrics perplexing but brilliant and this is one of my favs. Here's my interpretation: I think the song is about a crowd surfing experience that maybe Mike had at a live show, of having many strangers hands touching him as he moved over the crowd, some inappropriately (ten lovers violating, a reference to busy fingers, maybe?)and this being ultimately a cathartic and enjoyable experience. To me all the lyrics fit with this reference and the double meaning operating theater and surgeon show up the lyrical genius of Mike Patton. |
