I like the sound of this "Crying game". To me this song sounds like the turbulent experience of a relationship with this dominating, yet ultimately weak woman, acting below her age, hence the extended, childish metaphors; the sweets (strawberry lace, gobstoppers, ice cream), language (icky man). Clearly she controls the people around her, probably in a form of sadistic fun ("your pastimes, consisted of the strange and twisted and deranged...) which seems to be getting to this guy (Alex?) ("my thoughts got rude", "and I hate that little game") who seeks to distance himself from her/tear her down ("seeking of excuses to postpone") but ends up finding the situation utterly hopeless ("there was no cracks to grasp or gaps to claw"). |
