Eh.....Idk if I think the song is ABOUT hookers. I think that he's including them in the song along with the small town girl and the boy from detroit as in...you have people leaving behind their childhood lives for life in the big city or whereever they're going. When he says they took a midnight train going anywhere he's saying, here are two innocent youths that probably had a pretty all american upbringing and now they're off to try to find their life in an unfamiliar location to say the least.
So then, you have a singer in a smokey room, and a reference to sharing a night. Then he jumps to people waiting along the boulevard, like now you have some people whom are probably struggling while they work on achieving their dreams, "working hard to get their fill/doing anything to roll the dice one more time"...they're just going through the motions to try and get where they want to be. Some people stumble. Its the same concept that little girls dont want to grow up to be strippers and hookers....bad things happen in life while they're thinking about their dreams, and sometimes a good person, like a small town girl for example, might end up street walking, or entertaining in a smokey room.
He's saying litterally....Dont stop believing, hold on to that feeling - that feeling that you can make it.
Its not a negative song. He's saying that if you do take off on that midnight train to anywhere, you might hit some shitty spots, but dont give up.

I think this song is about a break up. He wants to go back to when they were having deep conversations like "questions of science" i think that means she is the type of woman he could really get in deep with and connect with. Over time they've drifted, so he wants to go back to the start, when it was good and he could still relate to her and she could relate to him. |

I def thing this is talking about people realizing their potential. It sounds like he's saying to someone from his past that he wants them to give him a second chance because he's giving himself a second chance, and finally feels he's worth it. |

This song really sums up my feels about love, that you dont need "stuff" to make a relationship, you just need to want to be together.

I think he's saying that life moves so fast, and we all die eventually, so for now lets just be patient and be in love, live in the moment and not be so quick to start our lives. "I dont want to follow death and all of his friends". Its like....since we're mortal, we're always trying to start our lives - finish college, get that job, get married, have kids, save for retirement....those actions are the friends of death, bc they force us to hurry our lives up and try to get everything in before we die.
He's trying to say slow down, stop, relax, just live in the moment for a minute. |

I'm not sure what it means exactly, but its beautiful. If I had to say so - at first I thought he was talking abt loosing someone in a car crash from the opening lines. However, since he dosnt see himself by the roadside, maybe he means that HE's the victim of the crash. He's still in the car/he didnt survive. Therefore, I think this song is more reflective of losing something or someone so important to you that the rest of the world is like a ghost town to you. |

I practically lived this song recently. I got into a meaningless fling with someone whom I knew didnt want me the way I wanted him.
This is a song about a woman who knew their "fling" wasnt going to develop into anything more, but she could see in that guy something more, even though she knew he didnt want to see it. So, after not too long, she walks away from the whole situation thinking "theres more to life than this" |

In the song, she's taken the side of the wife, voiceing that she dosnt want to go unloved by a husband broken by a war - who obviously is now incapable of lovnig her like he once did. So she's saying she dosnt want to go through this over and over for the rest of her life. She needs him, but he wont help her. |

"I didn't mean to waste your time
So I'll fall back in line
But I'm warning you, we're growing up"
This sounds like someone broke up with her and she's saying "well alright fine, i'll go...but we're not getting any younger, and your making a mistake" |

Actually, this song resonates alot with me. I have someone who knows what i've been through like no one else. Its about having someone in your life that understands. They arent able to make it better, but just knowing that they get it makes all the difference in the world. |

She's talking abt how she's always there to protect the ones she loves - even going so far as to protect them from themselves, but she's saying that she needs someone to love and protect her too, even though she knows that if no one ever steps up to the plate, she'll keep on helping her friends and lovers. In a way, being the protector is the best way that she knows how to actually protect herself. |
