i read somewhere that this was about cliff's death and how the band thought that the bus driver was drunk, and it was his fault that cliff died. they felt that the driver guy should've been thrown in jail, but there was no evidence to prove that he was drunk, so he was never charged with anything. james felt that the whole system was essentially corrupt for not charging the dude, and he wrote this song with the whole cliff ordeal in mind. |

btw, it annoys me how people define kurt/nirvana by this song. yes, it was their biggest hit (unfortunately), but that's not the only song they put out. in bloom, drain you, heart-shaped box, rape me, hairspray queen (feel free to disagree), all apologies, etc. are more of their long list of amazing songs. and this is NOT their best song by any definition. |

this song is most likely about jock-y, tough, macho-man type guys and cheerleader, preppy, conceited girls listening to nirvana because it seems to be the "cool" thing to do. and this song being on rock band has nothing to do with hypocrisy, im sure its a result of courtney trying to make money off of kurt's name, which is complete bullshit. |

its quite obvious to me that this is about a guy who's obsessed with another girl and cant seem to stop thinking about her. "i'm starting to scare myself" probably means that the guy is alarmed at his behavior. pretty much every line alludes to his obsession in one way or another, but that's just my take on it. |

damnit, why cant trent be proud of this song and play it live? this is probably one of nin's best songs. its haunting, beautiful, hot, insane, and everything else you can think of. i personally think its about a girl of course, but this dude is just falling apart because shes all he wants but cant have. she could also be ruining him (his "perfect drug") and causing him to just lose his mind, but he still wants her in the end. |
