I’ve had people tell me before that they would hate and dread reliving what they had to go through during and around my age. It’s one of the hardest things in life to face, everyday searching for who you are, who you want to be, and finding the one you want to keep. It’s such a vulnerable position, and so when one plunges into the deep waters of forming relationships and commitment, in a way, they have to expect being hurt. Why? Because everybody who wants that grandiose ending and happily ever after has to live life, earn their battle scars, and go through heart breaks so that they finally know what they want. But sometimes there are these cases where all that mess and everything one goes through in life ends up confusing them more and so they put up barriers between them and others. Its original title was “Your Guess Is As Good As Mine. This song really doesn’t have as much religious content as people put into it but I’m all for religion and getting into philosophical discussions/debates just not over a song that didn’t even have that much content in it. It’s about social dilemmas and losing yourself in your status and reputation, not knowing who you are, disappearing into everything else (your surroundings & circumstances). If you live in the world and for the world and don’t live for something more than trying to find your space in it, you become nothing, losing your individuality- you’re not real you’re just nothing & nobody. So, it’s a waste of time fighting for material substances and gain that is only something to pay off. But we’re so unaware of it… of being caught up in our own life and our own temporary pleasure; we can’t see the big picture, so when’s it going to stop? How can we stop something that we all were born into and we all live in? Where do we draw the line want and need? Your guess is as good as mine. |

| Yeah. I mean, Tori Amos is known as a feminist artist. This song might give a sense of women fighting against oppression in thier society- that’s what she is driven by. She uses code names to not only cover up true identities but to also attempt to branch out and help others relate to her. She even uses a feminist language (masculine writings are full of strong prose while women’s are clauses that are linked in looser sequences) Her écriture féminine that break free from phallocentric ways of thinking helps reinforce her standings as one of the greatest feminist artists out there. | |

Here’s my interpretation… Love can be a dangerous thing It’s like a vapor that could seep in from anywhere… just by air. It’s not something that requires skill... the PEOPLE require skill and tact They require sensitivity and grace… but he has none He views the girl as a victim, caught in his jaws, most likely because he knocked her up she’s breastfeeding and working overtime… fighting for just one more hour |

She was really religious and that could be showing her devotion to God. The family travelled all over; that is to say, wherever God “called” they “ran”. Even this album was named with a religious influence. They have the a devotion to God (as I said previously) even if they fall they know that their God feels the same way about them and that He’ll come to pick up “the pieces” that they “fall” into. As a Christian myself, we are told we are in a battlefield. We fight not against people, but evil (a bit abstract I know). In the war of it all he knows that God’s side will win (with God being there-on their call) Present, future, and past- consistency… you get the gist for the rest! ïŠ |
