Circa Survive – Kicking Your Crosses Down Lyrics 13 years ago
Circa is really beginning to piss me off.
I believe in God and blah blah blah, but it's really frustrating that every single band I love hates God. When I first started listening to Circa, I didn't notice the meaning of their music. But then I heard this song.
This is particularly frustrating because people "open their eyes" to see that there is no God, but who are they to open their eyes? I "opened" my eyes and realized there WAS a God. It's all a matter of who's writing the lyrics, but it seems more often than not that they realize God isn't there.

And has anyone ever stopped to think that maybe God doesn't answer our prayers because we are being tested, or even better yet (this would be a great subject of a song) that we don't deserve his help. Maybe the injustice in the world is to show how much we've screwed up our world.

Will someone please write a cool song like Circa, but not make it about atheism OR religion? I want music untainted by religion, or lack thereof. It spoils the music either way.

Evans Blue – Beg Lyrics 15 years ago
What I think it means:
Obviously, She's smoking
He says, "In the hand of my 'new' angel." The fact that he uses the word "new" means that, at one point, he didn't have her. She's new to him. But, in the same verse, he says, "And now everybody wants her." This refers to the fact that she's alone now, that she's free, and every person he can see is trying to get their turn with her. Everyone wants her now that she isn't with him anymore."But I shouldn't even bother," talks about the feeling he has, that he should just stop trying, stop putting out any effort in their relationship.
He also says that she made him complete, but left him all alone, which are two contradictory statements. He felt so good with her, but now that she's gone, he feels like no one's there for him.
"Hang a noose for my new sinner," sounds like he wants to die, when really, he just doesn't want to feel like this anymore. Also, the word "new" is used, meaning he has changed. He didn't act or feel this way before. Only after she left him did he feel so bad."Somewhere for everyone to see it" is his cry for attention. He wants someone to feel sorry for him, to take pity on him. Also, he wants her to see how much she hurt him.
The chorus is kind of wierd.
He says he wants her to "beg" him. He basically wants her to want him back as much as he wants her. He wants her to tell him how to love her, so he doesn't screw their relationship up, yet again. He understands that this is hard for her, and that she'd be taking a risk by taking him back, but still doesn't want her to get hurt, so he says, "go run for cover."
The last line, he sings to himself. "You better start to love her, so much you're moving on, and on." He is reminding himself that this probably won't work out the way he wants it to. If he loves her as much as he thinks he does, he will move on and just leave her alone. He knows that the choice is up to her.
The second verse starts with, "Now there's a whole wide world that wants to know." This is about everyone asking about what happened. They ask why they aren't together anymore. And he tells them why.
He took her to place she didnt actually want to be at. Sure, she wanted to be with him, but cheap hotels aren't the most romantic place. Hotels have neon signs, in the parking lot, where she waited and refused to go in with him any longer.
Once again, she's smoking.
He talks about being passed out in the hallway, but that may not be from what one would think. He may not be passed out from being tired, or being drunk, but being metaphorically "passed out."
He was absent minded with her. He didn't take into consideration how she felt. He might as well have been passed out in the hallway.
She left him still in love, still wanting him, but she was angry, so it sounds to him like she just doesn't love him at all anymore. He feels as though he only made things worse and worse, even though he was working to make things better. In his heart he knows that the world won't end just because they did, but he still feels awful about the whole ordeal. The words "Will you?" ask if she will be O.K. alone, if her world will end or not.
Once again, the chorus.
Then, the girl sings.
"Will it change your life if I change my mind?" She's asking him if he's willing to change for her. Not just a little. She means he will have to change his whole life to be with her.
The chorus means something different now.
He's retaliating. She's giving him an ultimatum on their relationship, and he says he wants to know if she will help him first. He wants to know if she will tell him how to love him. These levels he speaks of are her expectations. Then he realizes that they're just pathetic. They're just acting like children, and it took her giving him stipulations to realize it.
They sing to each other, bickering about who should change first.
The last part of the outchorus is him talking to her again. He doesn't want to hurt her, and realizes that it's finally time to move on. He says, "I'm so pathetic. You made me finally see it. Got what you want? I'm gone." This is him giving up, throwing in the towel. He's sick of putting up with all this stuff, so he just decides to let her go. He's gone.
She asks: "For how long?"
And he doesn't answer.
Finally, she tries one last time: "Will it change your life?"
The tables have turned. He's done with her, but she wants him back now. She should have changed her mind earlier.
