| Merle Haggard – The Fightin' Side of Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |

P.S. Women who look like Merle Haggard are jealous biotches and they trounce all over their "men". They turn their "men" into pussies. Aww. But it is all pretty funny in the end when they look like the pathetic wizened "hags" that they are. Their man loved someone else and they couldn't deal with it in a normal and healthy way. So sad when you are waaaaay too old for that kinda behaviour. But, I'm British. So call me cold! |

I had a guy cyber stalk me and it was completely unsettling and traumatic. This song reminds me of that frightening experience. |

I just watched the video and it looks like mud, not blood. But, being pure and true is easy when you are a child, not when you are an adult. So.. I am not quite sure what to say about that. I don't think Chris Martin is singing about Lucifer/The Devil/Satan.... He could just be singing about each one of us. The common man. And how things seldom go the way we want them to in life. How we are all a little bit "Jesus", a little bit "Devil". A friend of mine gave me a CD with this song on it. I miss him. |

| Norah Jones – What Am I To You? Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
"When I look into your eyes I can feel the butterflies Could you find love in me Could you carve me in a tree Don't fill my heart with lies" "I will love you when you're blue tell me darlin' true What Am I To You?" I totally get this song. You love someone and you don't really know how they feel about you. You felt something so special and this person meant the world to you. You opened up your heart and you cry when they hurt, but who knows how they feel.... True love? It is actually is quite awful. |

I agree with you. Over the past few years I have experienced a love that has altered my beliefs greatly. While you could call it a "crisis of faith", I think it has been an incredibly powerful and life changing experience. I think I have shifted from a religious point of view to a more spiritual place, if that makes sense. I know there is something much bigger than we are out there. I know we are not in control of everything. When I see the beauty in nature, the cycles of the seasons, the birth of babies, I know this. But, nothing has shown me this warmth and beauty more than this love I have experienced. I like what you said about walking into "a brighter light". I understand that feeling. This love has been an awakening for me. I feel the world is a better place because of this man's presence. He is that "brighter light" for me. |

I Love You Even When You Can Be A Total Jerk to Me. Don't "PASS" your album on. Please. |

| I think Albert Einstein said, "Whoever undertakes to set himself up as a judge of Truth and Knowledge is shipwrecked by the laughter of the gods". I have learned a lot by reading what other people believe this song is about and/or what it means to them. | |

| MusicalNutCase, I think (not I know, but I do strongly believe) you have a great deal of anger over something. Didn't Albert Einstein (who knew a thing or two about math and science, in my dumbass opinion) say, "Imagination is more important than knowledge" - or something LIKE that? A song can mean many different things to many different people. It can even mean MORE than one thing to the same person. Take it easy and try and open your mind. Music is love, dude. Why are you ON this site if you aren't into music, anyway? Perhaps, (not for sure, but maybe) YOU are the idiot. | |
| Coldplay – Viva la Vida Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This is a great site because we can all weigh in on what a particular song means to us. But, sometimes the meaning is so personal that we don't want to post it here. I could say so much more about what this song means to me, but there is only one person I would talk to about it. I will only do that face to face. | |

| I mean, "You're So Vain", by Carly SImon. Whoops. | |
| Coldplay – Viva la Vida Lyrics | 16 years ago |

It could be about Prince Charles and it could be about Bob Dylan. And, it could have been written about me, as well. Same with the song, "Your So Vain" by Carly Simon. Carly has never divulged who she was thinking about (exactly) when she wrote that song. So we hear it and think, "Hhmmmm. Is she talking about ME?" I love that about music. That we even try to interpret it and relate it to our lives or history or whatever the hell we are thinking about on that day, at that given moment is priceless. What is in our mind politically, socially, emotionally, philosophically, etc makes a difference. I also happen to think the song, "The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll" is amazing. I think I can explain what this song is about, but truly, who knows except for Bob Dylan? Also, if it has a "good beat and is fun to dance to" is nothing to make light of. Read the book by Daniel Levitin called, "This Is Your Brain on Music" (or something along those lines). There is a real thing that is going on with your cognitive neuroscience and rhythms, beats, etc (not only lyrics). It is like love. You can't exactly EXPLAIN it, but it is REAL and TRUE and you relate to certain music like you relate to someone you love. It is chemical and difficult to dissect. You like the song, it speaks to you, maybe you try and figure out what it means..... So, go for the Napoleon theory, the Louis XVI theory, the Prince Charles theory..... You are right! Everyone is right. What I CAN say with authority is how this song affects me. It makes me feel sad. It makes me think of things that were amazing and powerful that haven't worked out the way they were supposed to. Sometimes in life, things don't work out the way they should. That's what I think of when I hear this song. I can try and explain that to you. You might not "get it" or you might think I am off my rocker and this is what makes music so amazing to me. And if you want to tell me something else, please do! This song is so intellectualized because it means so many things to so many people. In my opinion, this is a great song for that reason. And, there is connectedness in conflict. |
