| I was under the impression that the song was about a prostitute with the mention of "Queen of the highway", as, often times, prostitutes are found on the highway. "Queen of the Highway" could also refer to a woman who runs away, however. I'm guessing the song has to do with the second interpreation of Queen of the Highway. Upon viewing the lyrics, it seems that Karen wants to change her life and settle down, but is afraid to do so. She runs away from love, and though she wants to settle down, she loses the courage to and runs away from that too. | |

I believe Silkstones has the proper lyrics for this song, with the minor correction from Jae26. I interpret the song to be about Natasha's hope for a relationship. In the first verse, she states that she will work to make her partner happy, almost in a subordinate manner. She is a caretaker. She is the ideal romantic parter, that is, until the "siren" comes crashing in, whom I interpret to be Pearl, or Natasha's alter ego. It is this entity or part of her that prevents her from having a stable relationship. She fears that Pearl will send her romatnic partners away. In the second verse, Natasha returns by explaining how she will be there to cheer on and love her partner. She believes she could be all he "would want and more and more". Again, though, she loses hope again because of Pearl. Pearl is described as, "the escapist, drama-prone, devastating id to Khan's rational superego" in a FADER magazine article. She is like Natasha's dark side. Because the song ends with "It won't be long until you're running (x4) Cause I'm evil (x2)" one can deduce that even though Natasha believes she could be an amazing romantic partner, she has no hope for long term success. The song doesn't end on a hopeful note. |
