Andrew Bird – Fiery Crash Lyrics 8 years ago
Worry is a great tool for protecting yourself from things that might happen to you! If you pay attention to the news, you can find out what dangers exist in the world to defend against. If you keep an eye on everyone around you, and keep your mace handy, and repeatedly imagine being attacked so you can play through the scenario and work out what you'd do, as absolutely exhausting as it is to always be on your guard, at least you're prepared in case someone does attack. If you vividly imagine your plane going down in a massive conflagration from which there is no escape, you're prepared to... well. Hm.

The problem with anxiety is that sometimes when things go wrong the only real answers to "what will I do?" are either "figure it out at the time, because there's nothing I can do now" or "be totally and completely screwed no matter what I do", but even if you're aware of it, if you're the kind of person who suffers from anxiety, you can't exactly turn it off and stop imagining the worst.

It's kind of them, though, to pretend that the torment of brooding over disaster scenarios might be a heroic measure that saves everyone's lives, rather than just a symptom of stressbrain. The harmony on that line even makes it sound like it might be true. It's a super-pretty song.

Arcade Fire – Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels) Lyrics 8 years ago
This song seems so post-apocalyptic, but I guess the apocalypse is adulthood: you lose your parents, you lose your memories of childhood, you're some untamed creature roaming the harsh wilderness, trying to piece together a life with the ones who make it worthwhile... y'know, adult things!

Gorillaz – Clint Eastwood Lyrics 15 years ago
'Kaaay, so I'm not gonna go through thirteen pages to see if anyone's already mentioned, but BTW? The rapper sounds like the personification of rhythm. "Rhythm: You have it or you don't" is a fallacy because he's in everything (every sprouting tree, every child apiece, etc). He's as old as the universe, so time means nothing to him. He's a guide and mentor to their drummer, lives "under every snare", and is intangible, because he's a ghost and doesn't have a real form--they see him with their mind, not with their eyes. (He looks pretty scary, but he's "all in their head".)

Like half of the rapping parts are just him saying what he is and what he does and explaining that he's GOING to explain something ("make it all manageable", put it in panoramic view for us and make us think about it). I'm not sure what it is he explains, but I think it could be that rhythm/music brought "all this" to us so we can survive and feel emotions in a dangerous world.

In other words? I know everything's about sex and drugs on this website, but have we considered that this song might just be about rock'n'roll? (With possible drug references here and there, I'll admit. Hey, two out of three ain't bad.)

White Rabbits – Percussion Gun Lyrics 15 years ago
I think it's "Now it all seems to be cut and dry", and then maybe "'Cause I know which way to run", but I'm not as sure about that part. But if so, then it's probably "So let them run, and speak my name". And then at the end, "Just give me some peace of mind, 'cause I..."
