Favorite ghost bees song so far- Indelicate get over it!- awesome! The melody is so creepy and disparate- it puts you in a headspace...

Deftones – Needles and Pins Lyrics 16 years ago
Chino writes about his bandmates all the time- half of Saturday Night Wrist is about them- lol! Chi Cheng even went on record saying he knew Chino wrote Hole in the Earth about the rest of them. His exact quote was something along the lines of- "call it whatever you want- hell- call it fuck chi cheng if you want- just finish the f'ing record!".

I think its very probable this song is about him and Steph for a few reasons. One of the biggest is that Chino tends to focus on a few general themes for each album and the self titled has a very strong lyrical conotation in regards to performing and the fans. This song seems to celebrate that pact they have when they're on stage. I mean even the phrase pins and needles references that tingling sensation when a resting limb wakes up (excitement?). I think it starts out on a darker note about their relationship and ends on a positive one in that he feels they're invincible when they're on the same page. I dont think calling him blessed or a star is exactly what youd call complimentary at that point in the verse. I think hes questioning the self confidence and headiness that Steph has been known to project and he resolves it by saying Im here if thats what you want- he'll follow if the pact is true.

One last tidbit I took from it. Steph is a heavy heavy dope smoker so the whole piece of imagery about blazing out like a sharp machine stands out as a piot reference to me. Could be wrong but thats my take...

Deftones – Around the Fur Lyrics 16 years ago
Surprised no ones mentioned this yet:

I really don't think its a fur coat reference. I've heard from a few different sources that "the fur" is a womans pubic hair. I know this sounds like it could be overly callous- but I think it is a metaphor for sexuality- not just a shock value thing. Indeed the whole album touches on these themes and I think the cover art gives a pretty revealing clue in this direction.

Other than that I agree with a lot that has been said- its a commentary on the shallowness of the hollywood glamorous lifestyle. An infatuation with the beauty of it and a sickness with the reality of it. In this sense I don't think Chino is actively trying to distinguish between the /sex/drug/image references. I think it refers to that whole scene and his personal collision with it at this time in his life. This is probably when the band first came in contact with that side of the music industry (adrenaline blowing up, my own summer getting heavy play on mtv)- and clearly they didn't buy into it with the same fervor as your typical "rock stars".

Someone asked about this line-
Prostitute climb back down from the floor
Please don't fuck around and die like this 'cause i love her

Heres my take:

The prostitute references anyone who has "sold out" into the industry. Beautiful women, rock stars- doesn't matter its just someone who has caved and started playing into the scene going on around them rather than taking any kind of personal stance or direction. When he sais "I love her"- it sounds tongue in cheek. You have that infatuation with this perfect image that you kind of buy into and when the sparkle fades and the true colours emerge its kind of like watching something die. I don't think its literally about a love in his life but more sarcastic in that he loved it when it was perfect.
