Also, "snow-tipped pines" could reference drug needles, as another previous person commented, it's likely the Mykonos story involving a sword with a pine cone on the tip is related. It's possible the singer (because he says "I find") walked in on the drug user in an overdosed state or with needles lying around everywhere. That imagery would fit the theme of the song.

"How did ANIMALS in the snow-tipped pines, I find
Hatch IN from the seed of your thin mind, all night?"

He's talking about drugs and their effects on a person as "animals", as in rabid or wild. He is asking how this drug habit took such a strong foothold in a person from just a "seed" in a "thin mind", perhaps the drug user overdosed or took his addiction visibly too far in an already-weakened state. In real life this should force an intervention. This idea is reinforced by the notion later that other people had to "take" him "down" to get him off to Mykonos.

He is waiting at the ancient gate of wisdom (on the adjacent island) for his old friend/brother to return to normal, to return to their friendship.
