ransom notes keep fallin out your mouth...what a fantastic line. clearly we can see that this song causes some serious emotion..since were getting comments about the holocaust and native americans...a little excessive but hey thats why i LOVE this song. sooo emotional..deep..its just wonderfull haha. the first time i heard it i went in like a daze for about 2 hours it was crazy haha. but i see it just as she is crushed by someone who did something horrible..i feel like its probably the person murdered someone..or cheated on her..or just something really detrimental in this place that shes in but it happened a while ago..or has been happening. ...in the beginning shes so confused as to what just happened..she can see it.. "the crop circles"...they hadn't even been covered by dust yet...and now shes got this sinking feeling...relization is washing over her. "spin me round again rub my eyes"..shes taking it in..even people in the streets would "hold their heads heavy"..its something horrible "hide and seek"..they were trying to hide it obviously "trains and sewing machines"......this one is difficult.. i feel like it means how this hit her like a train..how she knew he would try to sew her back together..put her back together after the huge blow..but it just seems so worthless compared to the train that had hit her before. yeaa i dont really know about that one tho i love the line. "all those years they were here first"...the years before with him..were with her first..how could she possibly have expected whatever just happened knowing only what has happened before. now shes seeing the damage where there only used to be pleasure..the "oil marks". the truth coming above the lies that used to hang. and obviously it takes over her causing so much pain unknown to this still life. "hide and seek trains and sewing machines blood and tears they were here first"....same as above..cept blood and tears were the actual first things here...not the years of memories that she thought before..she is seeing the truth now all the questions next clearly are just asking him why he did it..why he didnt tell her..why he thought it was better if he didnt tell her...just the surge of emotion causing her to lash out on him...confusion ransom notes keep fallin out your mouth..excuses newspaper cut out..shit he's just feeding her..she knows it not the truth.. whatever he did he doesnt care..he pretends he does for her..he doesn't..shes horrified/upset/can't stand what he's done/can't stand he didn't tell her/can't stand that whatever it is...has been the truth for so long and she hasn't know til now. beautifully written..i can see the emotion building in a short period of time and just feel her exact emotions as she writes..and how the questions just came pouring out so unsure of how to feel yet so perfectly sure that she is absolutely crushed...fantastic!!:) yepp thats what i thinkk |

i love this. "i haven't slept a wink since 1916...i wasn't born then but sure feels times been tickin'" is genius. i feel like its very simple to figure out what shes talking about..someone just being terrible to her and yet she still is madly in love while he's done with her and really not that great. But listen to the way the music is this mix of upbeat simple sounds...and then her incredible voice adds that eerie almost depressing twist..just like the lyrics. Like 'Rainbows wept colour all over the streets.' Rainbows are happy and have this positive conotation but directly after we see that it's weeping color on the streets..making me think of a melting rainbow..not exactly the happiest thought..so once again depressing twist. Then you can tie this back into what she is saying...the outside of her relationship was what she wanted..was perfect..was the rainbow...but in reality it was tearing her apart...she crushes herself..just as the rainbow is in actuality melting. and this works for everyline..not just the rainbow line. thought that was interesting. |

| i heard this song on the radio and wanted to seriously cry cause it was so terrible for green day. And I am a HUGE green day fan. The lyrics are..ehhh... i guess it's influential cause its just the broad idea of everyone acting out against authority but the repetitiveness just kills me. And tre cool come on you have done sooo much better. Luckily the abulm is absolutely fantastic. I don't know why they would put this out as their single definitely not one of the best songs on the album. | |
