My theory is that is a religious song. She thinks that she's completely losing her faith, but she still holds her cross, something won't let her drop her cross and I think that that "something" is God. She wonders why bad things are happening to her, she tell that it's God's guilty for that, but actually it's not. God tells her that there's still a hope and that he'll help her, that the reason why she can't drop the cross. And that part "Even Judas knew he had lied" remember what Judas did to Christ, he betrayed him, he sold his faith in Christ for money! It's my opinion!!!!!

Thank God I'm an Orthodox Christian, our church is full of love, justice and normality and yes, the catholic church made lot of sins, like burning thousands of women, abusing young children, their priests are sick!
