| U2 – I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For Lyrics | 16 years ago |

This song reminds me of the writings of C.S. Lewis. One quote in particular that comes to mind is "If I find in myself desires nothing in this world can satisfy/I can only conclude that I was not made for here". This song mentions several different pleasures. The line about honey lips could mean romantic love or sex. The line about tongues of angels could mean going to church, singing hymns, helping the poor and other religious activities. The line about the devil probably means sin. Bono implies that there is pleasure in all of these, but he still has this desire within him that nothing has satisfied, he still hasn't found what he's looking for. Its a desire to fully and completely know God and be with him. Lewis also wrote that unlike other desires, its fulfilling merely to feel this desire for God, even if it hasn't been satisfied yet. I think this explains why even though the title of this song sounds sad, its a very happy song. |

| R.E.M. – It's the End of the World as We Know It Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This is one of my favorite songs ever. I have a friend who doesn't like it and complains that the words are just random and nonsensical. I think that may be the whole point actually. From a completely literal view, the verses of this song don't make any sense, but all the words have similar connotations. They are all related to chaos, confusion, or the end of the world. I think this is supposed to represent the hysteria most of society feels in the face of huge changes. Micheal Stipe ocasionally breaks through all this hysteria with a shocking, revolutionary mesage; he feels fine. So overall, I agree with everyone who says that this song if about accepting enormous changes. | |
| R.E.M. – Crush With Eyeliner Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| When I hear this song, I always imagine a straight-edge and somewhat socially awkward teenager feeling a strange attraction to a punk rock girl. Despite knowing they have nothing in common. After reading the lyrics more carefully, it seems more likely that, as other people have said, the song is about being fake in relationships. When I just listen to the song without listening hard to the lyrics, however, this is just what it feels like to me. | |
