This song has nothing do with elections, it's all about cameras.
Pete says that a lot of people take this song the wrong way and assume it's about the government.
This song is about how people need to see what's going on in Uganda and other countries where people are being taken against their will and killed for no reason, rather than what's going on with the pretty celebrities in the movie and music industry.

Basically he's saying stop following around the shit that doesn't matter with the cameras, we've seen enough, and start putting cameras where these horrible things that are going on need to be brought to attention and acted on.

I love them.
Amazing song.

on the loose bolt part, where you said you needed other's help;
the citizen's are the "loose bolt" and the government is the
"complete machine" because this wonderful government of ours,
(that's sarcasm) tells us this is a democaracy, yet we don't have
any say in anything they decide to do.

Fall Out Boy – What a Catch, Donnie Lyrics 16 years ago
I'm not gonna say this is completely my own thought, but I've been reading a lot of ideas, and I'm gonna put my own spin on this:

Pete is writing the lyrics specifically for Patrick to sing.
Obviously, I know, bear with me.

He's speaking for Patrick.
Patrick's the one with the troubled thoughts and self-esteem to match.
He's insecure about his talents and Pete's reminding him, hey, you're f*cking awesome, dude.

I think the whole satire of songs at the end is a reminder to Patrick,
This is what you've done, you're a great musician.
Look at how many people love your music.

No?
Idk.
My theory.
Pete said he wrote in character a lot on this album,
so I could definitely see him writing as if he were Patrick

which is probably why in the music video, Patrick's the one
soul-searching out at sea, and seems to be lost.

Then he reels all of the "old FOB" stuff onto the boat,
as if to say like this isn't the end, we're just getting started.
Look what we've done and where it's taken us.

Yeah, I guess I could agree with the idea that it's a little about
their past as a band as well.

Mostly I think it's for Patrick. It's his song to me.

I don't think this is a farewell song at all, I think it's a curveball no one saw coming that says Fall Out Boy's done it before, and they're gonna keep on going.

This isn't the end of our boys (:

i agree, J12.
there is an enormous amount of drug references on this cd, compared to others.
like almost every song..

ativan is what he took to try and kill himself.

Fall Out Boy – Hum Hallelujah Lyrics 16 years ago
this song is definitely about pete's attempted suicide.

"i sing this blues and swallow them too.."
swallowing pills to forget his problems.

and while he was sitting in his car that night, he was listening to jeff buckley's "hallelujah."

Fall Out Boy – 27 Lyrics 16 years ago
I think this song does have to do with Pete's struggle with drugs in the past.

it's kinda a weird thought, but this is what i think and got from it:

i think that pete maybe misses the thrills and excitement of the drugs.
if anyone has noticed, they've made a lot of drug references on this album.
i think maybe he wrote this song to his former self, if that makes any sense...
i'll explain...

"milligrams in my head
burning tobacco in my wind
chasing the direction
chasing the direction you went"

milligrams in my head- snorting pills?
chasing the direction you went- possibly wanting to go back to drugs?

"and I want it so bad
I'd shoot the sunshine into my veins"
another reference to wanting to go back to the drugs.

"my mid is a safe, and if i keep it in we all get rich"
meaning maybe that if he lets it out that he wants to go back to
the drugs, it could possibly ruin things. but if he keeps it to
himself, then everything will remain how everyone wants it.

"doing lines of dust and sweat/ just to feel like you"
possibly another reference to his former self, he wants
to see what it's like to go back.

"and it's kinda funny
the way we're wearing anchors on our shirts
When being anchored aboard
just feels like a curse"

it's kind of funny that he wants to go back
to the drugs, when that's what almost ruined
him before.

and yes, i think the title '27' is a drug reference as well..
the whole idea that a bunch of famous people died of drug overdoses at age 27.

idk, it's a little crazy i guess, but believe it or not, that's what i got at first listen.

Fall Out Boy – The Pros and Cons of Breathing Lyrics 16 years ago
i absolutely love this song.

i think its about a girl who cheated on a guy.
"hide the details i dont want to know a thing"
"i hate the way you say my name like it's something secret"

they an amazing way of putting it in words.

Say Anything – This is Fucking Ecstasy (feat. Anthony Raneri) Lyrics 16 years ago
this song is about how because of all the drugs, max had a breakdown.
he literally thought his life was like the 'truman show' and thought people were recording every moment of his life.
"discovered that my life was just a record they preform"

Say Anything – Have at Thee! Lyrics 16 years ago
i definitely think that this song has to do with a bad breakup.
i think that maybe the girl in the song cheated on him & it ended up destroying him.
"seduced by a preist she was out to destroy me"

i agree with the "false christ" being her, but i dont think she was meant to try and look "cool"
with the whole " do any drug " part. i think that was his way of coping with the breakup.
he wants to forget about her so bad that he'll do whatever is needed to do so.

thats my take.

Fall Out Boy – (Coffee's for Closers) Lyrics 16 years ago

I think this songs about the goverment and George Bush.
"we will never believe again,
kickdrum beating in my chest again.
we will never believe again,
preach electric to a microphone stand."
i think thats like they'll never believe in the governemt again after George Bush.
and "kickdrum beating/preach electric" in my opinion is like them saying that they're gonna let it be known through their music.

"I'm a mascot for what you've become"
is to me, how us as a whole feel to the goverment. the goverment is like the puppet master and we're the puppets.

"I love the mayhem more than the love"
to me, is saying that George Bush loves the attention rather than trying to better the country.

and "change will come" i think is Barack Obama (because, I think they favored him in the election, i could be wrong) but i think that they're saying that once he comes into office America will be better off.

i can also see the fame idea as well, but this made more sense to me.
