This definitely is a sick song. Although, I'll have to say I'm a little disappointed now that I realize that it's a song about a homosexual friend. Originally I thought it was about a girl that he was infatuated with who, like some of you have said, plays mind games with him. She occupies so much of his mental and emotional thought, that even when other chicks make advances at him, he thinks of her and runs away because he's in love with her. So when he says: It's you and her and nobody else the lights are low and she's so ready You're already on your way to the door You're at the bar the tender gives you a free drink and winks, she's perfect You sweat bullets, spill the drink and you leave Everyone leaves the party except a gorgeous twenty something, you turn and run The "You" in this case is actually himself, talking in the 2nd person. All other times when he says "You" he's talking to the girl. He wonders why she won't commit, "So the way you act, is it just an act or some strange courtship ritual, a habitual nervous reaction?" Yet she won't leave him alone, "You're the one stepping on the back of my shoes. You're the one using me as a muse". And if he asked her about her bizarre behavior: "What the hell are you talking about is that what you would say? If I were to wonder out loud would it make you turn away?" - because God forbid they talk about it..."Just a curious question" Anyway, that's what I thought when I first started paying attention to the lyrics. I think we all hear what we want to hear when we listen to music. Until the author tells us what it's really about. Ha! I guess I won't ever look, or should I say listen, to this song the same way ever again! I hope they come out with another album that's like Horrorscope. |
