thank you 'noneedfordav' ... with that quote i hardly feel like discussing the song at all...his explaination is so clear. i can sadly admit to crying whilst reading what he had to say on it. radiohead; writting what we try not to allow ourselves to feel. love them!!! |

for me this song hits home... i am currently in a realtionship with a model (and im nothing special haha) He has gotten his foot in the door of the industry and its going VERY well. His career is something with a time limit on it so, if successful, will have to leave and act on his career. For me it hits home in almost everyway. I even met him when he was 19 (lol) and i was 4 years older. For me this song is about letting go of something you love and allowing it to blossum. Letting them leave you and having a internal conflict between a desire to see them succeed but also not wanting to be forgotten. my favourite part of this track is "remember me when your the one you always dreamed"... so very accurate right now.....hugs anyone?? lol |

i think ceci92 has this song meaning to a T. Obviously it is open to personal interpretation and songs like this can relate to many of us in completely different ways. My personal feelings on it dont differ too much from ceci92; i have been in similar circumstances myself. Trying so badly to asimilate (spelling?) with someone who i was total in love with. "breeds a pack of lies" i feel represents the 'better version' of ourselves that we show someone in a time like that, perhaps, in mirroring them and only showing the best parts of ourselves they will like us. etc. This is backed up in the second verse and the most powerful line in the whole song "you never see the lonely me at all" indicating how much of yourself is hidden for fear of losing what u love so much. a truely powerful song (only made moreso with the duet with bowie) that is a haunting representation of foreshadowed loss of someone we love...the foreshadowing of a loss is represented more obviously in the line "you're slipping slowly from my reach" but more powerfully in the 'tick tock'....a countdown to the inevitable loss... sorry for crap spelling guys |

The only version of this song i have listened to so far was off of the soundtrack for 'skins' season 1. This version is without the last verse...is this just me?? or should i be after a different version of the song?? But as for the song itself...beautiful...in a word. In more than one word; its a song that looks quiet basically and very accurately at social status inequity in a relationship and , to be more specific, how it has brought love to an end. I love that it leaves the nature of the relationship up to personal interpretation. With a hauntingly emotional voice and smooth melody this will certainly be in my iTunes 'most played' list for some time. |
