Kid Cudi – Pursuit of Happiness (Nightmare) (feat. MGMT & Ratatat) Lyrics 16 years ago
In my opinion, this song is about drugs.

The first stanza talks about the joys of drugs and their use. "Crush a bit, little bit, roll it up, take a hit/Feelin lit, feelin right, 2 am summer night" He talks about the time in his life when his drug was it's peak, summer time. He was care-free and happy while trying new things and doing things he's always wanted to do. HIs friends and family who knew what was going on told him to chill out with the drugs. He blew them off and did what he wanted because even if he did die, at least he did all the things he wanted. He wanted to live his life with no regret.

The second stanza focuses on the negative aspects of drugs. Yes, they may give you temporary euphoria, but you can also watch your life crumble before your eyes and not even feel a single thing because on drugs you tend to be numb to the world. "Tell me what you know about dreamin/ You don't really know about nothin'" - When he says "dreamin", he's refering to drugs; he's telling them you don't know anything about drugs; you only know what you've hear, but unless you have as much experience as him or more then you dont understand what he's going through. When people think of dreams, they think of positive, happy dreams, and tend to forget about the horror of nightmares. "Tell me what you know about them night terrors every night/ 5 am cold sweats wakin up to the skies. In this stanza, he proves that he knows the potential dangers of drug use as he goes over them with himself. Night terrors could either be an side effects, an overdose, or withdrawals. He then declares, "You don't really care about the trials of tomorrow/Rather lay awake in a path full of sorrow". Here, he is talking about himself suggesting that he doesn't care about the consequences of the druguse or it could show the before and after effects of drug use. Like when you first start to do drugs, you know that in the long run (tomorrow) they can really effect you but you start despite this information. In these stanzas, Cudi is taking his time thinking about drugs and how they have and can affect him. He realizes that the thing he started to help him live to the fullest with out regret is the thing, as time progressed, that now controls his life and he regrets starting. Though Cudi takes all of this time reflecting on his drug use, he knows that in the end he will go buy the drugs because he has formed such a habit he can't actually go through with not doing them.

"I'm on the pursuit of happiness and I know everything that shine ain't always gonna be gold, hey
I'll be fine once I get it, I'll be good"- This is the search for whatever drug he is looking for. You know, calling around, getting the money together, and going to make the purchase. He's saying that since it's been hard finding it this onetime, he knows the stuff he's going to get isn't going to be that great, but at this point, he doesn't even care. Whatever he gets will be fine for him because he just wants the drug and the high.

watch your LIFE crumble before your EYES and not even feel a thing*

So, what he was taking to give him artificial happiness, drugs, in the first stanza, actually gives him terrors in the second stanza. This song shows that drug use is not good over a long period of time; most addicts start doing drugs know this information, but for some reason, start doing the drugs and keep doing the drugs. In this song, Cudi knows and points out the potential dangers of his recent and frequent drug use, but because he is addicted knows that he will continue to do the drugs in the end.

In my opinion, this song is about drugs. I'll start of with the refrain:

"I'm on the pursuit of happiness and I know everything that shine ain't always gonna be gold, hey
I'll be fine once I get it, I'll be good"- This is the search for whatever drug he is looking for. You know, calling around, getting the money together, and going to make the purchase. The first stanza talks about the joys of drugs and their use. "Crush a bit, little bit, roll it up, take a hit/Feelin lit, feelin right, 2 am summer night" He talks about the time in his life when his drug use escalated to it's peak, summer time. He was care-free and happy while trying new things and doing things he's always wanted to do. HIs friends and family who knew what was going on told him to chill out with the drugs. Brand New – Limousine Lyrics 16 years ago
this song is unbelievable! at first, i thought i was about abortion. once I read about Katie, i could completely see it. here's one thing i got from this, which may be kinda far fetched but it goes along with the wedding motif...

death and weddings go hand in hand, like deaths and births/weddings and divorces do. they're a juxtapostition: the beginning and the end. you're figuratively putting your life in someone's hands when you get married and you're life is literally in someone else's hands when you're murdered. i feel like jesse is paralleling the murder to a relationship between a man and a woman where the man "did her wrong".

It's about drinking too much and having a hangover in the morning.
