yeah, adrianhughes1998 is right on. This song is about adam's engagement to the chic from Eisley. As we all know they are strong christians and she broke off the engagement at the last minute. This song also goes hand in hand with "Miami" which is about the same thing. In that he sings the line "the faith you had, I never felt" "the terror held in wedding bells..." This is a great song. Lyrically there is so much heart in this album.....so much more than the previous record. |

Guys, Adam was engaged to the girl from Eisley. They were supposed to get married in Miami. As we all know Eisley are all very strong Christians and Adam didn't neccesarily share all of her beliefs. The engagement was broken off at the last minute. |

(Originally I thought this song was just about sex and or substance abuse but I’m pretty sure its about two people that are both in an affair and He is starting to fall in love with her) She keeps a bottle hanging like religion right underneath the bed She pours it in the sheets and vents... Combats the awful things we did (They are doing something they know they shouldn't be doing, when they are done she immediately repents/prays for their sins) Snakes and Plagues and her former slaves are arising from the dead... She grinds her heels as we bottom out... ..the horrible years we were fed... (I think this has been a problem for her/them before, and it’s happening again. The part I’m still most unsure about though) And as the lights double back again... We curse the man who invented them (This line can be taken two ways: 1. They hate when their time is up and they have to go back to their other lives. 2. They regret what they did when its over.) I see a little bit of you in everything Blowing up like Jerusalem in me How I'm in love with everything.. The girl with the golden back (Everything reminds him of her, he can’t stop thinking about what he can’t have, ex. {the girl with the golden back} ) Give me love in a telescope and beat your heart like a marching band oh I could bludgeon it or bottle it... or beat it back to bed... (Love in a telescope refers to their secret relationship. He’s not sure what to do; end it, keep it, or forget about it) But bleeding bleeds much safer streets so pick up that bandaged dress.. and put the polish down and leave the crooked ground.. You look infinite at best... (He knows its gonna hurt to end the affair but it’s the best/safest thing to do. And so they do) and as time gives god a rest.. we better bind our better halves... It may have something to do with drugs though. Not sure. |
