Everyone has flaws, even the gov't. That is exactly what this song is about. 'nuff said. It's saying that if you look really close, everything and everyone has a "crack in the surface an flaw in the plans..." look a little closer and you will clearly understand what he is saying. |

Thank you, People get it through your thick heads that RA doesn't focus their attention on relationships!!! There are more important things to sing about, like the war on terrorism, global warming, animal cruelty and testing, cancer, dying, our dying planet, the government. This song isn't about relationships!!! When you learn that you will be better off. And just because it mentions fire doesn't mean that it involves firefighters. |

I personaly interpret the song as one of Rise Against's finest. The song is talking about how we struggle to put out a fire that we have caused. "We sleep so sound, in rooms just up the stairs, will you save us like you saved them?" That is saying, how the gov't will save themselves, but society is asking can you save us. "If I held my ground would you ask me to change, this drought bleeds on and we're dancing for rain drink the air, but it's still not the same, these worlds collide, but the distance remains, we point the finger never accept the blame and I know...i know." Point blank the gov't will do anything to save their own tail. They could care less about our hides (us being part of society.)The gov't doesn't care what happens to us, as long as we keep the tax dollars rolling in...if they screw up it's automatically our fault (They point the finger never accepting the blame) either because we didn't send in enough money, or we just don't care. Our gov't will dissapate slowly. It starts with socialism then leads to communism. We can kiss freedom goodbye. This country was formed on freedom, it's time some people realized that. Our goverment contiues to crumble, but we are dancing for rain, praying for a savior an answer, anything... |

My fave on Appeal to Reason. I think that is about how the war on terrorism is fought for peace, but we only succeed in destroying more. "Spin out of control, trying to recover, no chance to recover, we spin and crash one after the other, spin out of control." that is saying that even though we try to keep peace, we only help destroy ourselves. The war doesn't allow anyone to recover, so we'll spin out of control and then crash. The gov't will crash, if society doesn't first |

I personaly think that the song is about how today's society conforms. The more you conform the more likely you are to lose yourself. "Failed attempts at living simple lives, simple lives, all will keep me coming back to you." This to me is saying that you can try to be different, but if you fail, you will come crawling back to what you know. Non-Conformity is the answer, at least in my world it is. "The drones all slave away, their working over time, they serve a faceless queen they never question why, Diciples of a god that neither lives nor breaths but we have bills to pay, yeah we have mouths to feed" This is sorta like saying America is full of workaholics and yeah, they'll work the 9 to 5, but they are only doing it to get by. The goverment is the faceless queen and also the god that neither lives nor breaths. Society are the diciples that serve both. Society turns to the gov't for answers. DON'T CONFORM!!! |
