I always thought it was about a woman being told she has to follow certain standards but never being able to live up to a man ("be like men but never feel like your good enough") but being a warrior and standing up for herself living in a man's world I was sorta close- it's not just about women- but about anyone who doesn't feel good enough. I actually copied and pasted this right from Kimbra's blog http://www.kimbramusic.com/node/1171/ I also really enjoyed writing the lyrics to this track. Mark's initial suggestion after writing the 'pushing me down' hook was that we try and write the song about something or someone who threatens to take away our joy. There are people who always want to bring you down, and 'Warrior' is about standing up for what you believe and following your convictions even when people want to prove you wrong or explain away the mystical or extraordinary experiences you have. There are people who try to take away our sense of beauty and awe of the world by rationalising it all away with human theories and therefore cheapening our emotions by minimising them to pure math or chemical reactions. Although these views are valid and can be worthwhile and progressive in their own right, this song is a call back to embrace that child-like wonder and strength in 'feeling' things, while not always fully understanding them. There's a war-cry at the heart of this song that I feel strongly about.... Will we raise our men and women to be strong in heart & 'to cry for the ones they love'? Or just automated to be strong in body and mind, but lacking in empathy? Hold onto your light.... follow it to the end... and fight the man! Preferably with a roundhouse kick to the face in a Luchadore mask and spandex leotard!!! Haha ;) But of course & as always, make of it what you will! That's just my slice of the pie x |

| Lily Allen – Chinese Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Yes I am actually pretty ashamed to be an American because of all the ignorant people in this country.... I don't blame other countries for the way they feel about us. I try to learn as much as I can about other cultures and be accepting towards it. However I will have to say that I have never heard anyone say "A chinese" before this song. I just kinda assumed that it was a British way of phrasing Chinese food before I heard this song, and I assumed right! I kinda like it- I would use it here in the states but no one would know what I'm talking about! Anyway my point is- even though we are an ignorant culture, that is a common misunderstanding so please don't jump down our throats about it :) Anyway I LOVE Lily Allen. And I always thought this song was about a boyfriend until the other day. When I found out she wrote it to her mother, it seriously brought tears to my eyes. Here she is- this big star leading a glamourous life, and she doesn't want anything more than to see her mom and spend time with her- just doing simple things like eating chinese food, watching TV, and talking. It's so sweet. |

Of course a lot of you can relate. I can relate too. It's about her. I will quote her youtube channel: "This is another song from my session at Capitol Records. This song is called Miss Invisible and is very dear to me.. It's quite autobiographical and details my time in junior high school. To this day, it's hard to get through this song without feeling like I'm right back in my 13 year old self ... falling down stairs... dreading lunch time.. This is also the song with which I won the 2004 Pantene Pro-Voice contest which some of you may know about. I hope you enjoy it :)" -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_g5ZaV7ueAs |

You know when you have those moments in life where something happens and you know your life will be forever changed based on that one event? Thats what this song is about. First the divorce of her parents- watching her mother sign the papers as they both leave her abusive father. As a child she probably thought- this is the day that everything changes. Nothing will be the same again. Then she gets pregnant by some guy who is obviously using drugs (metal to the fire) Once again she knows her life will never be the same again. This is the day that everything changes... We all have those moments when things take a turn for the worst. We need to learn to accept that its just part of life. |
