| i think the song is about a guy who split up from his girlfriend about a year ago. he talks about how good he use to feel when he was with her and how with out her he's getting more and more depressed. He cant listen to some of his favorite songs anymore because they use to listen to them together and now they just bring back those memories. He writes songs about her all the time(he's using this to describe how often he still thinks about her) and even though shes always in his thoughts he doesn't even think he crosses her mind since she's already moved on. He's letting her know that now after this long "lonely" year of missing her that he's finally giving up because he's finally realized that its over but just because he's giving up it doesn't mean he doesn't care and it still hurts that shes moved on."don't worry, i'll keep out of your life" he's reassuring her that even though he still cares he really means it this time he's done trying and is ready to move on with his life and he's going to stay out of hers. But she'll still be on his mind hence "and stay awake at night". Great song! | |

"fallowed" is referring to the fact that his addiction is always present hes always thinking about getting high. "sorrowed" is reffering to the fact that he's upset about the situation he's in, in regards to his addiction and wanting soething else/more |

this song is definetly about heroin addiction. "Warm sun feed me up I'm leery loaded up Loathing for a change And I slip some Boil away' Hes talking about being reminded that hes alive by the feeling of sunlight on his skin and how he's bothered by it because his conscious is starting to remind him of the mistakes he's makingg and how he's living. But he has a "loaded" syringe and he hates the idea of changing his ways(to stop getting high, the mind of an addict) and getting clean so he "slips some"/shoots up and "boils away" gets high feels that warm sensation and forgets about the guilt he feels for being an addict. "Swallowed borrowed Heavy about everything but my love Swallowed hollowed Sharp about everyone but yourself Swallowed oh no I'm with everyone and yet not" hes swallowed or "consumed" by his addiction. "Borrowed" he knows that the feeling/escape he gets is only temporary. "heavy about everything but my love" meaning he's stressed out and worried about everything except for heroin, which in addiction has become the only thing he cares about. "Hollowed" is describing the emptyness he feels inside. "sharp about everyone but yourself" meaning he try's to help so many people but he cant even help himself. "Im with everyone and yet not" he's saying he still exsist in the world but he's never really present. he's always high or He's only thinking about getting high. he doesnt have goals llke evryone else drugs have become his world. "Just wanted to be myself" In my opinion thats one of he deepest lines ever written in music. with all the expectations of society , of his parents, he just wanted to be his fuckin self man. he jus wanted to be who he wanted to be and not have to worry about what is expected. Hey you said u would love to die some" he's speaking to himself. thinking back to the moment where he decided he wanted to try heroin desptie warnings from the people who were using it that he didnt wanna ruin his life or kill his future by trying it. "in the middle of a world on a fish hook. your the wave" he feels stuck. his life feels stagnant , and heroin is what keeps him moving. what gives him purpose. "Piss on self-esteem Forward busted knee" he doesnt give a shit about himself or needing to feel good about himself in addiction. he's a wounded person now. "Sick head Blackened lungs And I'm a simple selfish son" "sick head" because he's a compulsive drug user. "blackened lungs" meaning he's no good anymore. "im a simple selfish son" he cant/wont stop using dope even though he knows hes hurting everyone who loves and cares about him like his family and friends. |

when i read these lyrics i cant help to think its the end of a relationship(with a friend or a gf/bf) as well as the end of college. "and when we get home, i knwo we wont be home at all this place we live,its not where we belong And I miss who we were in the town we could call our own Going back to get away after everything has changed" here i feel like shes talking about her and her bf returning home after college but knowing that even though thats what she's calling it, her heart is still in that college town with someone special she met while she was there. She's saying she misses that town and how she felt with that special person in that town where she finally established her independence being away from her hometown for the first time. Her first home away from home. Now there both leaving school and going back to their perspective home maybe after graduation and future plans prevent her and this special person from being together or maybe after a bitter break up they decide to leave school because being in that town without him changes the whole situation and she no longer feels comfortable there. "So we stand here now and no one knows us at all I won't get used to this I won't get used to being gone And going back won't be the same if we aren't staying Going back to get away after everything has change" In the previous verse she was speaking about the future("and WHEN we get home") i think right now she's still at school and she talking about how the friends that they had both made while they were together at college can't get use to the idea of them being apart since they had always known them to be together and how she herself cant even get use to the idea of not having that person and she wont get use to being gone is refering back to the idea of returning home. She also talking about how in the future, going back to this town to get away from her hometown and relive some of the past in this town and with this person (maybe a visit or maybe to be with him) isn't a good idea because either she knows she'll have to return home eventually or shes talking about rentering a relationship with him and she knows that going back to him to get away from uncertinty is dumb because she knows they will never last because everything has changed now due to actions or an exchange of words that may have taken place during the breakup. when he's saying "I'm coming out of my cage And I've been doing just fine" i think he's refrencing that he's finally leaving his home and starting to go out and meet new girls again after spending a period of time grieving over a break up. not going out, just sitten around thinkin about her. then when he says "gotta gotta be down because i want it all" its like as soon as he's back on the scene he's reminded of her and remembers why hes been so down and out because he wants everything they had again. Then when he says "It started out with a kiss. How did it end up like this? It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss." He's kinda jus like talkin to himself and he's thinkin he had no clue that kissing her and starting a relationship with this person would put him in a situation like this (one where he has a broken heart and he can't get her outta his mind.) Its like he changed his fate with something he saw at the time as just a simple kiss. Then when he says " Now I'm falling asleep. And she's calling a cab. While he�s having a smoke. And she's taking a drag. Now they're going to bed. And my stomach is sick. And it's all in my head. Now he's back at home again and in bed he's either sleeping and dreaming or as i like to see it, he's trying to sleep in that kinda half sleep stage and he's wondering where she's at and what she's doing. And whenevr ur not over a person and u imagine them out you always think there up to no good. so he's picturing her leaving some place with a guy havin a smoke while they wait for a cab together. Then he imagines that when they get to there destination they end up taking things to the bedroom. As he's thinking of this scenario he got that sick nervous feeling because he knows it possible and now all his thoughts are totally consumed with this idea, but at the same time hes trying to convience himself that its all in his head.Then when he says "But she's touching his chest now. He takes off her dress now. Let me go! I just can't look, it's killing me, And taking control. i think he's saying as soon as he tries to convience himself it's all in his head he starts imagining the actuall sexual encounter and how it would happen and its so real and he's so sure that this is what she's up to it's breaking his heart more and more. when he say's let me go i think it has two meanings he's telling his imagination to let him go because the thoughts are consuming his mind and he feels like he's loosing control because no matter how bad he wants to stop thinking about these things he can't help himslelf. I also think he in the midst of thinking about what she could be doing he's like saying aloud let me go. he wishes she would somehow releive him of his feelings for her. Those are my toughts. |
