If you don't come from Chicago, you can't appreciate this song to the fullest. It's entirely about going back to Chicago. pocketofdeadliness got it right. "Lake effect" is how they describe weather coming off Lake Michigan, and no, there's no other possible way to interpret the term (ie, PrettyColeFury is very off the target). Molz017, it's not quite about Wilmette. Fall Out Boy is from Glenview, but you're very close. So, when he says I'm forever a Lake Effect Kid, he's saying he's forever a Chicagoan, no matter where he goes. |
