This has nothing to do with the actual person Copernicus... it's so obvious it's about a kidnapping of someone. 'then you cut out all the letters that make up this note' hmm haven't you seen the cliched detective movie that has the psychopath kidnapper makes a note out of magazine/newspaper letters. Or 'The solution inhaled from the rag I hold' might be chloroform? The reason why The Mars Volta called it this is because Copernicus moved the world from the center of the universe. Oh and the random syncopated drums in the end... is just awesome lol The Mars Volta need to do that kind of stuff more often. |

This is song scared me when I first heard it, while listening to the album... it comes right after With Twilight As My Guide.. such a difference... they brought back the old 'dragging the lake' ehh... well I love this line 'cards can't make a house' As for the meaning it would take a few joints and some time deciphering (lol joking) but it reminds me of The Bedlam in Goliath (other than the dragging the lake) it takes time to think of the meaning, it might come to me after a while just like The Bedlam in Goliath. |

Well "Nembutal is a trade name for pentobarbital, which is a long-acting barbiturate used as a sedative. The drug is commonly used in suicides; and is also used in executions in the People's Republic of China." (source Wikipedia) If you look at the first line it shows it could mean it about suicide but as execution for a wrong dead (probably murder of someone close). When listening to this song (which was very enjoyable) I kept that in mind. They (the band) are obviously coming from a person's point of view who is very angry at someone for doing some very very terrible. This person obviously thinks that the person that committed this crime isn't worth even being executed. This really makes sense to me until the second part of the song which I don't understand either way >.> To Cruiserfan you are on to something, but The Mars Volta like to put religious allusions into their songs. |

| Really in this song I think it was meant to have several different meanings, it's what The Mars Volta wanted. The Mars Volta created the very word Amputechture so that it could have different meanings. The fact is, they wanted to make it so that people could make several meanings out of this song, as the person said above, it has no true meaning. | |
