| Constance was Martin Walkyiers grandmother who had died shortly before the writing of the album this song is part of. He wrote it for her. | |

^Indeed, that is the insinuation. It almost certainly speaks of a woman who appears and then takes something when they go (his heart) It almost refers to his 'little mistake'. That of marrying her one would presume. |

I believe this song concern abortion and the main characters (Walkyier?) guilt and shame at making that choice. 'I have walked the earth so many times before your birth' Well, the child hasn't been born yet, still in the womb 'it was i who sowed the seed' The 'character'...you know...'sowed the seed'. 'As yet unwritten history' - the child being as yet unborn 'Once more i stride the lightning road' Playing God perhaps? 'Identity a mystery ' 'She stole my heart - I took her life ...' '(And yet i never knew her name).' This I believes emphasises my....theory. The child hadn't been yet named. Perhaps many of references to killing many people is a representation of his guilt expanding and making him feel as murderer - perhaps that he is seeing the child in his mind everywhere he looks. 'I hide that my intention is to pour this single phial' Here Phial is a play on words - It also could mean 'Single fail' as apposed to just mean a medical container (which again reinforces this idea of a child and abortion.) |
