| Better Than Ezra – Turn Up the Bright Lights Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| This sounds right. I was confused when I looked up the lyrics and saw that version of the chorus on all the lyrics sites. I could've sworn I heard Saint Louis. Glad I heard right. | |

Couple of things pointing to this being about John Mayer... Story of Us: "So many walls up, I can't break through." Heartbreak Warfare: "God only knows how much I'd love you if you let me / But I can't break through it all" Story of Us: "The battle's in your hands now, but I would lay my armor down if you say / you'd rather love than fight." Heartbreak Warfare: "I swear to God we're gonna get it right / if you lay your weapon down" And, to me "Now I'm standing alone in a crowded room" sounds very similar to "My dear we're slow dancing in a burning room" Just my take |

One comment I wanted to make about the final verse "And I brought home that flag / now it gathers dust/ cause its the flag that I love/ its the only flag I trust" He brought home the white flag, due to the fact that he became disillusioned with his patriotism and blind love for his country after witnessing the atrocities of the war. The flag represents peace, of course, and it gathers dust because America is still at war. There is no peace, so there is no need for the white flag, hence "now it gathers dust" |
