The places thst Layne was probably spending most of his time in at the point of writing this song were most likely filled with people who were addicts just like him and just as bad off(if not more)than he was. I think that this song partialy draws inspiration from the countless OD's he saw and the loss of hope and joy in the people he associated himself with. This just feels like a confrontation to God. like demanding an explanation for all the things that he allows to happen. |

To me the line "saw my reflection and cried" shows how Layne was horrified at what he was becoming becuase he vowed to never be a junkie like his father and yet he was unable to stop. Also, he was an addict for so long that he probably felt that was his only identity. It also could be a refrence to the fact that as his abuse progressed he dropped more and more weight eventully dropping down to 80 pounds. I dont know what it is about that line but I just feel like it is the most profound lyric in the song. It jst completely connects the listener to what layne was feeling. |

I didnt know until recently that this was actully written as a love song. I always felt like it had more to do with sacrificing your sense of self or happiness for somthing that you cant let go of ex: drugs, bad relationships. IDK it just seems like it is expressing such saddness over the whole situation and this just dosent fit as a love song to me. |
