"lipstick by the door if I inflame"? Um, no. It's "lipstick, blood and purifying flame." In fact this whole thing from Mibba.com is a lot closer: "I said, We'll drown ourselves in misery tonight. White lies! You've worn out all your dancing shoes this time. Just give us war! Worn lipstick, Blood, And purifying flame. These eyes, Have had too much to drink again tonight. Black skies! We'll douse ourselves in high explosive lights. Just give us war! War! I've been calling you all week for my, Shotgun! Pick up the phone! Pick up the phone, fucker! I wanna see what you're insides look like, I bet you're not so pretty on the inside! I wanna see what you're insides look like. I wanna see 'em! Well, you don't say, And, well, I can't explain what happened to my face. Late last night, I sleep in empty pools and vacant alleyways. And what I'm goin' through, Shot lipgloss through my veins. And, well, I can't complain, With the falling rain. C'mon! I want to save your heart! I want to see what your insides may be like!" |

Yeah, the little brother is definitely in the box. "He started crying It sounded like an earthquake It didn't last long Because I stopped it I grabbed a rag doll And stuck some little pins in it Now we're a family And we're alright now We got money and a little place To fight now We don't know you And we don't owe you But if you see us around I got something else to show you" |

Well, we all know from interviews that Gerard has a thing for WWII. So it's totally possible that the song is based on that and especially with the fear that Hitler was going to take over the world and kill everyone in his path. This is the only way "Right now they're making a coffin your size" makes sense to me. So many people have gone off to war because they're getting in trouble at home or not getting along with their families. Seems like this is the case with the patient when he says, "You should have raised a baby girl, I should have been a better son." The mother really believes in the glory of war and all that stuff. She wants him to tell her about how he saved the world and got shiny medals. He's saying that she doesn't even know what she's talking about - the horrible, really dishonorable things that some people have to do to win battles, take little territories and survive one more day. Things that people didn't even talk about years ago, like shooting children at point blank range because you didn't know if they were going to kill you first and all that. Bad, bad stuff. Nightmares that don't go away. People don't even know what war is. It's not just storming the beach at Normandy. I think these lines are the most chilling ones of the whole song: "She said "you ain't no son of mine" For what you done they're gonna find A place for you and just you mind Your manners when you go. And when you go don't return to me my love, That's right." Don't come back- from war or from hell? PS: not all of us are kids, Bollocky. But thanks for the compliment. |

| Marilyn Manson – Mutilation Is the Most Sincere Form of Flattery Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Good God, this guy is having a hissy fit in this song! I like what Harlaquinpansy said. My first thought was "All of this whining over makeup? Seriously? A slash across the eyes? He didn't even invent that! Nor did he invent suits!" Look, I don't hate M.M. at all. I think he was just having a moment. But by this point, even Marilyn Manson fans must be disappointed in this sappy, whiny, catty (dare I say) emo display. Not only is there this song, but also interviews where he's hating on them. And really, what's up with that? MCR have constantly shouted out their influences - and Manson is NOT one of them. Their music is nothing alike, so when it comes down to it MM is just the girl at the party who throws a fit because she thinks someone else is wearing her same dress. Come on. Have your moment, but in the end wipe off the mascara stains and get back out on the dance floor or go home. |

Haven't you guys heard of those old-fashioned knife fights where they tie the hands of the two guys and then let them go at it? That's what this is. "Take my f*cking hand" ...so they can tie us and we can get this fight over with and die if necessary. It's kind of a romantic notion, like a duel. It's "laceration clarity". neverxsavexme explained this a bit on page 4. |

| My Chemical Romance – I Never Told You What I Do For a Living Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I think it's about a guy coming to terms with his bisexuality. He wants to be with this one person, but the temptation is everywhere and he has vivid memories of his encounters, of "killing" all these men. He tries to resist, but keeps "going down". He wants to end up with her but knows he can't commit yet because the temptations are too much. | |
| My Chemical Romance – My Way Home Is Through You Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Yeah, I agree with everyone who said he's ALMOST making fun of crazy, screaming at the top of their lungs, hyperventilating fans. But he's also definitely making a point about parents who leave the kids out there to be overly-influenced by a rock band. "Do you want to hold my hand? Could you sign this photograph? Cause I'm your biggest fan. Would you leave me lying here?" That last line makes you think of some silly underage girl who has sneaked into the hotel room and laying there waiting for a band member to come in and find her. But, it's a blunt song all around. |

| My Chemical Romance – Vampires Will Never Hurt You Lyrics | 15 years ago |

"We're hanging out with corpses, we're driving in this hearse Someone save my soul tonight, please save my soul." Just my interpretation, I have a really strong feeling this song is about not selling out to the record industry. Basically, "If they get me, kill me. It they corrupt this, kill it." Wanting to shield the true fans from the changes that come when a band gets to a certain level, even while you know how seductive everything can be. A lot of groups are making thinly-veiled anti-record industry songs now right out of the gate. (MGMTs "Handshake" is weirdly similar although from a very different band.) Maybe MCR was ahead of their time? |

| My Chemical Romance – The Sharpest Lives Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Yeah, I'm three years late. :) But, I definitely think this song is about a patient who is asking a nurse (or whoever, really) to just go ahead and kill him. Give Me a REAL Shot, make this pain REALLY go away. Just end this already. He's getting all these painkillers and drugs that are making him hallucinate/remember things so that he's in and out. But I think what he really wants is to give in to what's happening and go into the ultimate light: "Give me a shot to remember and you can take all the pain away from me one kiss and i will surrender the sharpest lives are deadliest to lead a light to burn all the empires so bright the sun is ashamed to rise and be in love with all of these vampires so you can leave like the sane abandoned me" |

There's a reason why this song gives you an Alice In Wonderland vibe: Both of them are about drugs, lol. I do NOT know all the references specifically, but I've been told it's all there. |

| The White Stripes – Hello Operator Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I always thought it was told from the point of view of a dead guy or ghost (like Broken Boy Soldier) who is making fun of the people trying to collect money from him. The whole oscillator thing? I don't know. But it does remind me of how kids used to fold a dollar bill and stick it in tire spokes or fan blades to make a sound. There's also an oscillator in music equipment. But who knows... lol. I'm sure a lot of these songs are written from stream of consciousness. They're almost never going to have a perfectly linear meaning. |
