Blueneck – Venger Lyrics 12 years ago
I am just in love with Blueneck's music, and was really disappointed that their official lyrics weren't posted anywhere--so I did my best--but I know they aren't completely accurate! Their live versions definitely use different words, as well, so that doesn't help... Hope it will be easier for others to help fix them if they have something to start with, at least. ;)

Archive – Fuck You Lyrics 14 years ago
I feel like the best songs are ones that leave room for interpretation, and this one, especially for being so initially straightforward, should not be considered worse (who's voting down these opinions that disagree with them, lol?) or less significant for imagining there could be something deeper going on.

If you've never been depressed or suicidal (or just really really hate someone and like to lash out to them vicariously singing along to this), looking at it from the outside I can see how it might be more difficult to believe this song is about self hate. But there is a lot of evidence that it could be. And honestly, I've probably spent a strange amount of time considering it, but the cd has been replaying in my car for awhile... ((can I just say how much I love Archive?? <3))

First, totally agree with stealtheharmony. I thought that was a very well thought-out comment so I had to vote it back up. ^^

There is a lot of rage/emotion in this song. Especially for someone he'll "never meet." It's personal. It's really, really personal and I just can't see having that strong of feelings for someone he admittedly has not met (ie a celebrity figure). Someone he's seen evolve and change ("you were once just like anyone else"), someone he hears "all the shit that you say." Someone he has not met but thinks he knows, and someone that consumes so much of his life, if "ALL I WANT is to see you in terrible pain"... seems like an awful lot to pin on a stranger, if so much of himself is focused around this person.

"Put a gun in your mouth"--that is a much more common method of suicide than a way to murder someone. There's something intimate about it.

"When you look at yourself... why the fuck are you looking at me?" That is the clear giveaway, IMO. The repetition really seals it, and like stealtheharmony said, with the loud crash of guitars and drums elevating its significance.

I've been there. This song really speaks to me, and once I read that theory I really latched onto it and can't hear anything else; I'll admit it. And everyone's experiences shape their own opinions, so who's to say anyone's is wrong? I'm certainly not trying to definitively declare what this song is about (nor do I think the songwriters should have to; that's part of the beauty of lyrics), but there is way too much evidence here to dismiss this theory outright. :)

Middle Class Rut (MC Rut) – New Low Lyrics 14 years ago
I just heard this song for the first time on the radio a few minutes ago--and yeah "ripped the thoughts right out of my head" was definitely how I experienced it. It all seemed to be speaking straight to me in a pretty intense way, and each additional verse just drove it further in... I think erawk and lokaidia22 got it all exactly right. Or at least I totally agree with you both. ^^

and I just want to send out love to everyone who feels this song the same way and is feeling trapped in a rut... it's such a scary place to be, and such a scary place to leave.

wow, I never would have thought this was about self-hate, but it makes a lot of sense and really adds so much to it, I think.

"Though we won't ever meet" I don't think contradicts the 'self' angle; I actually see it as reinforcing it, especially with the image of "why the fuck are you looking at me"... like he's staring into the mirror.

I don't know, it just goes from a cool song to an utterly amazing one if you look at it that way, IMO. Pretty chilling; I love it.

actually one of the lines right before she gets to the "down down down down" part sounds like "I'm fine with the lights out" (instead of "I'll climb with the lights out")

and I think it is "he said don't wait up/I'm fine/he says don't wait up/I am fine/He lied/He lied/He lie"

at least that's what I'm getting the more I listen to it... not sure if there's such a thing as listening to their songs too many times but if so I'm well on my way. xD

Minipop – My Little Bee Lyrics 15 years ago
First time I ever heard Minipop was this song on Pandora. Love it!! :D

(Although I heard the first couple lines a bit differently: Go along, my little bee/ For you I've taken good care of me)

Minipop – Precious Lyrics 15 years ago
I had no idea about that one line either, but after pupchild's idea that's the only thing I think it could be ("hammering sand").

also just wanted to add that the chorus changes the very last time it is repeated:
"say what you wanna...hear"

and....this is the song that made me fall in love with the band. <3

love this song! I just listened to it a bunch over and over to get the lyrics down and I think I liked it a little bit more each time. Not sure if this is a legitimate "correction" but it's how I heard them:

I'll climb with the lights out
(I know where to start)
I'll climb with the lights out
(alone in the dark)

I'm sailing in the wind
on and on again
solitude is harboring
x2

if only you could see
(I'll climb with the lights out)
x3

if only you could see
(I'll climb with you down down down)

he said
don't wake up
I'm fine
he said don't wake up
I am fine
he lied
he lied
he lied

Not sure what it all means, but very interesting when you consider the name of the song... I love her voice, she makes everything sound so sad and beautiful regardless of what she's saying. I personally got a lost/childlike vibe here, like she was hurt at being left behind.

Fair to Midland – (When The Bough Breaks) Say When Lyrics 16 years ago
yeah there is so much to read into with their lyrics, I don't know if it's actually possible to be accurate without Darroh holding your hand and giving you a play-by-play of each line. :)

I really just wanted to say this song is beautiful, and so evocative of...loss or some kind of sadness? but then the chorus is so triumphant! I don't know how to interpret it aside from all the feelings I get listening to it; the combination of amazing vocals and the musical lines through it (I wish I knew more musically so I could elaborate on "wow!") are so emotionally powerful to me.

yeah, wow. <3

yeah he is incredible to hear! I would listen to anything he sang about... What's even cooler is how much depth there is to the songs/lyrics, which makes it even more worth listening to.

honestly I think that is what they are saying! I've tried both of them in my head when listening to it, and it's quite clear. Plus it makes sense, and it's funny.

There's quite a few posted FTM lyrics that I suspect might be off; I don't know if they are official releases (in which case who am I to judge?) but they just don't seem right (either in the context or just sound-wise).

Fair to Midland – The Wife, the Kids, and the White Picket Fence Lyrics 16 years ago
I always thought of it as sort of a viewpoint on class lines/stereotypes (as in an entire suburban upper class neighborhood) rather than a specific family. The only personal line is "bastard child"... I find the rest of it general enough to make pinning down a specific interpration a bit dicey. Although I have no clue what to offer as to any possible interpretation. :)

But I do think Codfish is on to something with "the underlying focus of the song is things seem fine on the outside, when they're not."

Fair to Midland – Walls of Jericho Lyrics 16 years ago
Speaking of 'drastically missinterpreted', I was way off on my own understanding of the lyrics because I misheard them:

"No one was waiting to throw out the pilot/we float on the backs of the winds that we still know/another tomorrow set in the shape we made yesterday"

that's what I heard, and to me it was about passively accepting life and getting stuck in a rut. And I had to look up the lyrics to find how the rest of them fit in there, and now that I know they don't I have to rethink the whole thing. ^_^
