I have so many things to say that I don't know where to start.. Maybe I'll start with this: female orgasm? dammit people! Now you've ruined this song for me (just kidding, NOTHING could ruin this song for me). That's like the last thing that would ever come to my mind while listening to this song. :D Not saying that you're wrong 'cause it does make sense now when I think about it but I just have never thought it that way. And then.. what is this talk about the WT and placebo covers being better? Kate has like the most beautiful and unique voice in the world and that's what makes this and all her other songs so great! I must admit that I do like the WT's version 'cause I'm a fan of theirs and I love Sharon but still the original version is THE BEST. And what comes to the Placebo's cover I really don't get it why people like it so much. It's so boring I can't listen to it without falling a sleep. And last but not least: the meaning of the song. Actually I have NEVER had any kind of clear image of the meaning of this song. But I have my own little story that I've built around this song. I've always imagined there's a woman who has had many failed relationships in her past and nothing ever seems to work out for her. Then she falls in love with some guy who seems great but eventually breaks her heart like all the other men in her past. Then she just loses it and turns into a maniac and kidnaps one of her ex-partners and ties him into a chair and threatens him with a knife. And this song would be the things that she says to the man she has kidnapped. This idea came to me mainly from the lines: "It doesn't hurt me. Do you want to feel how it feels? Do you want to know that it doesn't hurt me?" That part of the song always makes me think of a scene where the woman puts her knife on her ex-partner's throat while saying the lines. That's how she's saying "Yeah it doesn't hurt me at all. it doesn't hurt as much as it doesn't hurt you when this knife cuts your skin." |

MidNiteOil has already said pretty much everything I think the song is about. :D This song also gives me a great idea for a movie.. There would be like this little boy (Steven) who suddenly goes crazy one night and kills his babysitter and then turns into a serial killer. I know the plot seems very similar to the movie Halloween but this one could be a bit more 'psychological' and there could be something more than just a guy in a mask lurking around with a knife and killing people. I can just imagine the scene where Steven kills his babysitter. Steven is sitting quietly upstairs in his room with a psychotic stare in his eyes while the babysitter is downstairs watching tv. The babysitter starts to wonder if Steven is OK 'cause he's being so quiet. So she starts to call out Steven's name. When Steven doesn't answer the babysitter starts to get a bit worried and goes to upstairs where it's dark and she can't find Steven from his room. Then Steven attacks on her from behind and kills her with some sharp object. When the babysitter is lying dead on the floor and Steven is all covered in blood he realizes what he has done. This of course has absolutely NOTHING to do with the 'real' meaning or the story behind this song but it's just something that always seems to pop into my head every time I hear it. :P |
