to me this is sort of a farewell love song, to something that once was, but no longer is. it's about changing, falling apart. "you may tire of me, as our december sun is setting, im not who i used to be" is saying that it's alright to move on, giving somebody freedom from unhappiness they may face with someone- because people change over time, and how time can do a lot to someone (decemeber sun setting signifying the end of a year/day, the end of something entirely). the second verse talks about how in a relationship, when its something that was real and true, you never quite ask for it, it sort of throws you into it. it becomes the beginning of a new stage, but marks the end of all that precedes. but when it ends, sometimes even if you try your hardest to get through it, you cannot do anything to help yourselves, all you can do is let it go and move on. people will always yearn for something more, something different, and that comes in the form of a new person sometimes... and the end part, "now we say goodnight from our own separate sides like brothers on a hotel bed" is sorta like, the relationship has lost all of its luster and is more missing the romantic aspect, and now they say goodnight as if they were brothers, laying as seperate souls atop the bed, a totally non-romantic relationship. |

God there is so many comments but i really wanna analyze this song. so bad. i bet no one will read this though. i think this is a good interpretation tho :] I want to live where soul meets body And let the sun wrap its arms around me And bathe my skin in water cool and cleansing And feel, feel what it's like to be new -Ben is saying that he wants to be on Earth, living the mortal life that is so fragile, and well, Earthly. He wants to experience everything life has, such as the feeling of sun and water, which are the necessary elements for our life. "Feel what it's like to be new" to me, means to feel what it's like to be human, because if you are religious at all, or believe in afterlife, life on Earth is the very first step. We're still very new here. Because in my head there's a Greyhound station Where I send my thoughts to far-off destinations So they may have a chance of finding a place Where they're far more suited than here -He sends his thoughts off to a "greyhound station" or just generally far away, because his thoughts are far too complicated for someone on Earth to understand, and maybe in a latter stage of life, whatever life may have to offer after earth, he might be able to understand them, but for now, they cannot ever be solved, so confusing and controversial on Earth. i know your comment was from 2005 and it is now 2010.. but i feel like analyzation! :p "When your apologies fail to ring true, (you're) so slick with that sarcastic slew of phrases like "i thought you knew" while keeping me in such hot pursuit" -the "when your apologies" line sort of means when somebody does you wrong, and you are upset, and you're like, hey that really wasn't cool, they just totally screw something up and their apologies are only said because they have to, but because they really mean it. -you're so sic with that sarcastic slew, when they apologize and know theyre wrong but they switch the blame and make you look like the bad one. phrases like "i thought you knew" kinda like that bitchy heartless thing that does that kind of place swaping thing, "while keeping me in hot pursuit" but they keep you hanging on, keep you wanting them, lead you on, taunt you, etc etc etc hope thats good enough, and not TOO too late... (5 years isnt so bad right) |

At this point, my comment is the 174th, and nobody will probably ever read it. Yet I feel compelled to say what this song means to me. This song seems to be about a relationship, a brief one that didn't last too long, but there was something behind all of it and was real, but individual problems kept them from having a relationship. Although they both felt like there was something there, it's sort of too little too late and the way things worked out told them that it just wasn't meant to be. They move on, meet other people and maybe fall in love with someone else, totally moving on from this relationship. But when they see each other, all of the things they forgot about came rushing back in, first the good memories, maybe a little anguish, and then finally the realization that it didn't work out for a reason. They decide to stay in touch as friends, and maybe it meant a little bit more to the girl. In the end, all it is, is simple memory of different times. "Live through this, and you won't look back" To me, this means that even through a relationship that meant a lot to you, and can make you feel more emotional pain than any physical happening could ever do... if you can survive an experience that hurts but makes you learn from it, you will have the ability to get through anything without the regret or hard feels. Part of me almost wishes I was in a situation that I could relate to this by, because it's such a beautiful song, that I know it would have a good influence on me, and help me through whatever. |
