That whole first part of the verse is supposed to read like one thought: While holding down A job to keep my girl around And maybe buy some new strings And *her a night out* on the weekend I keep trying to edit the lyrics but it keeps making me log back in then sending me to the homepage in an endless loop. Frustrating but regardless that line is wrong here. SongMeanings is usually pretty accurate with the lyrics they publish but not for this song… |

No. "Providing pearls" is the correct lyric; "providing perils" wouldn't really make any sense actually. Nick is talking about how the girl is more trouble than she's worth and he's not there to support her out-of-control ways. It directly relates to the line "I can't be around to pick up your bags and your debts." And yeah, Redjello is totally right - this is not a love song. SA's parts could be, but his verse doesn't seem very related to the rest of the song. Nick's lyrics in this song are more of a resignation - accepting this girl is not good for him and moving on. A valuable lesson.... |
