this song has nothing to do with an actual marriage. the marriage is talked about as it'll happen in the future. it hasn't happened yet, and it won't. this song is about a man who gets his girlfriend pregnant while their relationship is a wreck. the hospital is because she's having an abortion. they feel like they're forced to get married if she keeps the baby, so they're getting rid of it. so there was no wedding, there won't be. "i like for only you and i lie well" meaning, they're going to lie to their parents as to why they broke up. "I contemplate the day we wed Your friends are boring me to death Your veil is ruined in the rain By then you like to do without There's nothing new to talk about And though our kids are blessed the parents let them shoulder all the blame" Their relationship is a mess, and there wedding would have been too. their kids would have been the reason for their marriage, "shoulder all the blame". |

This song is about a couple. The guy got his girlfriend pregnant and they feel that they have to get married. "And though our kids are blessed, the parents let them shoulder all the blame" The kids would be the reason why the couple got married in the first place. They're almost forced to get married. She's in the hospital, getting an abortion. So now they have to lie to both of their parents as to why they broke up. The relationship wasn't going well, so they had to end it. But because she got pregnant, they would be tied together. Which is why she had the abortion. When he sings "I lie for only you and I lie well", he's saying how now they have to lie to the parents. My english teacher told my class the meaning today. There's no way I'd come up with this on my own. |
