Blegh. Stupid button. "A preacher deprived of her voice" Again, taking away something that makes a thing what it is. E.g. a preacher without a voice is nothing. "A punctured lung is creating noise" One of the more brutal lines. No longer saying anything intelligible. Probably just shrieks of pain. "The cry that she made was the cry of a dying child" Comparing to the death of a child. A saddening loss of something so innocent and pure. "The revocation of empathy" Being cold or callous (Obviously, whoever is doing this). "The sound from a million dreams and scars" I'm a bit hazy on the 'scars' part, but I'm sure that the other part is talking about the destruction of a widespread good. "Termination bliss" Literally, the end of good, love, peace, etc. "Blessed under a lie, her last little weak 'Why?' " The first part is very confusing, but seems connected to the second part. I think it might be 'claimed good by something evil'. This doesn't quite make sense in context, and seems like it negates itself. The second part, however, is asking 'What did I do to deserve this?'. "The bloody end of a dream" The death. The big finale. "Slit the throat and taste the cream" Do I REALLY need to say anything? "She wears her crown on a head that's bowed deep down" I wasn't sure on this one, but I think the aforementioned references of Jesus do fit. Kind of a relative example of what the song is talking about. "A dying picture of lies" This probably has to do with the 'blessed under a lie'. I think it refers to the philosophy that nothing in this world is truly good, or truly pure, rendering everything the angel stands for to be a lie. This could be a derivative of the message of this song. "A tortured saint fed to the flies" Probably the one line that sums up all of the lyrics. Something purely good, ripped apart and layed to waste. Whew, that was a doozy. An excellent song, though possibly Deathstars's most brutal. I'm probably off the interpretation, but it works well enough for me. Thanks for reading. |

In general, I think this song is more along the lines of "tainting that which is pure". If you think about it, angels have always been thought of as wonderful, beautiful, pure beings. In essence, this song would be about ripping that to shreds. (Of course, this could have many applications: religion, society, etc., but the general theme remains.) "A polaroid of shame" A 'polaroid' usually refers to a stereotypical, perfect moment. And so, 'ultimate shame, untold humiliation'. "Here she comes down, as her wings get nailed to the ground" Angels are always described as having magnificent wings. In a sense, they are a part of what makes an angel an angel. Also, it gives them the ability of flight, a wonder that man has dreamed about in all of recorded history. To nail the wings to the ground keeps them from being at all usable. Just as well to cut them off. "The face of deceit" Realizing the betrayal. Did not expect this to happen, or a sudden surprise. "With nails in her feet" Along the general lines of the wings. This could also signify the inability to escape, a sort of 'screwed over', if you will. Sort of a 'can't defend' might be inferable in this case. |
