| Tegan and Sara – You Went Away Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Assuming that there is "more to life than love, and being together", as the song apparently concludes on that note, what is that? The song seems to relate to a specific relationship, but to me it doesn't seem as if Tegan is asking for something more than just their love and proximity, but for the meaning of life. What is there to life if not finding the person you want to spend your life with? The song seems to use the relationship for its surface meaning, and that the break up gives rise to much deeper and older thoughts. The song is beautifully written. The beginnings of the first and second verses are so simple, yet so striking. "you said you couldn't love me...all I do is love you". 'Aw shucks', anyone? Also, why are there so few comments about this song?? I find the line "is there more to life than love and being together?" in my head every day. And I really wish that Tegan answered the question within the song with examples. Because I can't seem to figure it out. I realize that there is plenty in this world to fill your life with, but what else is as profound, crucial and worthwhile as love? Everything else seems so futile and boring. Please help. |

| Tegan and Sara – Relief Next to Me Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I think I read somewhere that this song really depresses Sara whenever they play it live. So, I figure that despite the song's surface cheery tone, it's got some deeper, more cryptic and tragic meaning that may only be clear to Sara. | |

I always thought that this song was about people wasting their time, and having nothing better to do with their time and lives than "feeding their animals". It does make a lot of sense that the intended meaning of the song would be relevant to an illness of Daniel's. I also really like Corin's interpretation, that it's an animal protest. I'd love to think that Daniel wrote more songs about animal abuse. This song is pretty ambiguous, though, and it's hard to find one absolute meaning for it. Unless of course you happen to be Daniel or Paul. :) |

| Ida Maria – stella and god Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| That's strange, I never saw this song as an optimistic comment. I'd thought that it was more along the theme of the false "love" of prostitution. Like, how falling for a client would be stupid because all they truly want is sex. | |
| Kate Nash – You Were So Far Away Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Yeah, it was about prostitution. She said that she read a short story were this prostitute had this customer who just wanted her to drink his pee, and nothing else. And so he was pretty well her best friend. Does anyone know what the story was? There's a vid on youtube where she says what all the songs on My Best Friend were written about. | |

I always interpreted this song as a comment on materialism and typical cover girls. Like having to wear make up and act a certain way as a general MO, and rejecting your own individuality to "frame up a material girl". It could even be related to consumerism. I liked what Divinesilence said about how it fitted with The Odyssey, I know they both have previously written songs relating to other literature, but I've never known them to be interested in Greek mythology. But what would I know. My interpretation didn't exactly connect with anything that I've heard them say or anything, except once when Tegan said “I think it’s good like…most girls look at magazines and just feel bad about themselves. Well Sara looks at magazines and is like, ‘I could get with her.’”, but I don't believe she said that in direct reference to this song. It's just that they never tend to wear make up unless it's for a video or an interview or whatever, so I imagined that's what the song was about. Just putting that out there. :) |

| Fall Out Boy – She's My Winona Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I thought this song was about teen pregnancy/unplanned pregnancy cos "i don't want anything in between" made me think of relationships and stuff but then he said "then came a baby boy with long eyelashes" and then yeah I thought it was about how the baby was unexpected ("then came"). and so i thought the song was about how it changed their lives and their relationship. so I thought "oh, maybe he didn't want to be so close after the kid came along" cos of how sometimes people ditch, but the rest of the song doesn't really go along with it. but it's what stuck in my mind. when you look into the lyrics, there are so many things it could be about. |
