| I think that this song may be about the history of racism in the former Oregon city of Albina. Albina was consolidated into Portland in 1891, and in the 1960's four out of five black Portlanders lived in the Albina neighborhood. It is still a predominately black neighborhood today. | |

Also, despite the references to "the taste of blood" and "scars", I'd like to think that the theme of abuse is not necessarily physical. Scars can definitely be emotional too. And denial is extremely common "make-up" for covering them up. What do you guys think? |

This is even more amazing having now finally taken the time to sit and really read the lyrics. This is an especially fantastic line: "The taste of blood, the claim of love these two will here on cease to be, Sprouting from your fists and tongue 'cause Carolina waits for me" Really simple and direct but just marvelously worded and powerful... which could accurately describe the whole "Home" mini album. |
