Tegan and Sara – Arrow Lyrics 12 years ago
To me, this song is about a new potential love. In the first verse, she is asking the person she's interested in to be critical, not put her on a pedestal, as often happens with new love. She doesn't want to go through the regular flirting stage where people just give each other complements that are often not even true. She's asking the person to look at her bad sides, and to tell her what she could improve about herself, so she might become a better person in their potential relationship. "If you're thinking anything, if you're thinking endlessly"; she is urging the person to tell her about their feelings, even if the person is not quite sure about it ("anything") or if the person has already spent a lot of time thinking about the possibility of them being together ("endlessly").

In the chorus, it seems that she too has spent a lot of time deciding whether to go for that person or not. "I feel the breeze" could mean that she is now convinced, the person brings her relief, like a breeze on a hot day. She also feels the feathers of an arrow in her hands. She is already holding the arrow to shoot her target in the heart, like Cupid. She has set her aim, she has decided (maybe out of a few potential lovers) that this person is going to be her goal. So now she is going to make her feelings more clear, and actually take action to get closer to this person.

The second verse almost seems like the opposite of the first. But actually, it's not. Not only does she want the person to be honest with her and be critical, she also wants them to be tender, the two essential things in a relationship. She wants to find comfort in the relationship and become a better person. I really like the line " would you take a calm and tender, terminal kind of care?". It evokes the image of a dying person in hospital, and the tender care they receive. She expects that kind of love from her lover all the time, not only when she is in need. The line: "Would you touch me?" is just another invitation for the person to come closer, this time more straightforward and intimate. She doesn't ask the person to stay, but to "cling", which is a lot stronger and suggests that she only wants it if they really are going to stay together forever. The person has to be prepared to "wage an intimate fight" for her, which not only suggests an inner battle, an inner torment, which is inevitable with these kind of decisions, but also just fighting with each other. She's asking if the person is ready for that, and not give up if they end up fighting from time to time.

Lastly I would like to say that to me, this song sounds kind of dark and ominous. It's like she knows out of past experiences that love is almost bound to go wrong, but she still thinks it valuable enough to take that risk and gathers all her courage to just go for it once again.

Mineral – February Lyrics 14 years ago
To me, this song is about a person who has lost someone and feels things can't be undone for some reason. He knows it's too late to change anything, but he wants to say one last thing to be able to make peace with himself. He's both sorry and thankful for what happened. This could mean that he has done something wrong which he regrets, but it could also mean that he is sorry about meeting this particular person or about how things turned out. On the other hand, he is thankful, maybe because he learned a lot or because he had a great time when that person was still alive. This is also expressed in the last sentence: I think I finally know what they mean when they talk about joy. Looking back on things, he realizes that he was truely happy back then. I think it's not a coincidence that he gets this insight in February. As it is the coldest and darkest month of the year, the contrast is just too big with the happy times that he remembers when he was still with that person. Hope this was useful to anyone. Please let me know what you think.

Mineral – The Last Word Is Rejoice Lyrics 16 years ago
He's afraid to rejoice because when you have experienced true happiness, it's even harder to live on without it. It crosses him with everything he does because he really wants to rejoice but he's way too afraid to take any risks. He wants to love but he thinks the disappointment afterwards is not worth it. But deep inside we all want to rejoice, 'cause a moment of true happiness is worth the pain afterwards.

Mineral – Dolorosa Lyrics 16 years ago
It's obviously about missing a person very much, whether that person is gone or still around you. I feel like he wants to search contact with that person but he's too afraid, because he thinks another disappointment will follow. I think deep inside he longs for happines but he knows he shouldn't. He just hopes that the person will come back to him because he knows he could never do it by himself.
"Jesus I hope you're coming back soon" I think this is the best line. The "jesus" just expresses the suffering and makes it sound more pleading. Every moment alone becomes more unbearable. That's why it's called dolorosa. It's a long and painfull way without the person you love.
