beautiful song. I think it's about a song both Ian and his lover loved. He loved that song. And now whenever he hears 'that song' he gets nasty about it. She ruined 'that song' for him. "And when you're hated would you hear me scream at the top of my lungs" he remembers all of the times he loved that song with his girl but in the end, as much as he really 'loved that tune' he fuckin' hates it now. lol |

| A one night stand with a clingy girl. Possibly where a girl really, really likes him and he was half into it. He knows he was selfish, but shes ultra clingy, trying to tell him what to do but he has more important priorities like the band, bars, being young, and he's putting her on hold for all of that. Saying if you wait, I'll be there, but I really can't wait til you put me on hold for your favorite things so I'll be off the hook. Most early 20's males can relate to that. lol. Could be wrong...any suggestions? | |

I can't believe no one has commented on this brilliant piece yet. lol. I see it this way With the entire break up concept bows + arrows brought to the table. "My Old Man" is the part where he knows his ex has a new boyfriend and he had found out the night before, doing something possibly drunkenly and thoughtless but was enough to prove to his ex he still loves her. Whom in turn still is desiring him/ wants him back. And this man just doesn't make sense with his ex girlfriend in the first place. He angers him, it 'throws him from his chair.' He knows her, he knows how she is, 'bring your sister out.' So early the next morning they get a hold of one another, and he half heartily apologizes for acting like an ass the night before but he doesn't 'need it now.' Leaving her with the final ultimatum: If you're with me, then cmon, 'break it off with him' and we'll take your sister out and have a good time. |
