It's fairly obvious that this is about a boy who doesn't know what to do with his life.. "So many questions, so little to say You don't need these weights" People always ask him what he wants to do, and they probably tell him that he's gotta do something with his life, and he just doesn't need to hear it because he already knows it and he's so tired of hearing it all the time. The only time he feels good is when he gets drunk and doesn't have to worry about any of his problems. |

"Number nine with my head on the bar" A reference to Morrissey's "The more you ignore me, the closer I get"? "I will be in the bar, with my head on the bar" |

I found an interview where Eric explains what this song is about. The song is based on a "recurring dream saga" he was having.. http://stereogum.com/the-gum-drop/song.php?tid=54461 I love this part of the interview: "..she was trying to show me her new vinyl find, but I couldn't stop trying to reconcile if it was even possible to fit "Randy Described Eternity" on one side of a seven inch at 45 rpm." <3 Built to Spill (and Say Hi, of course) |
